NCAA Football Betting: Week 10 Review

All right college
football betting fans, another week is in the
books in what has been one of the most unpredictable
college football seasons of all-time. Before
bettors move on to Week 12 however, here is
a look back at the weekend just past in an
effort to assist bettors with their picks for
this upcoming weekend’s matchups.
Though the majority
of my “lock” picks
usually rest with teams that reside outside the
Top 25, here is a brief look at how the teams
in the Top 25 fared against the spread.
No. 8 Kansas 76 Nebraska 39
Kansas was one
of my “locks” last
week and made me, (or should I say themselves),
look good, covering a -19.5-point spread against
an absolutely atrocious Nebraska team. I’m
going on record right now to say is that if Kansas,
(9-0), wins out and doesn’t get a shot
at the National title, the already idiotic BCS
system should be scrapped immediately in favor
of a simple playoff system. The Jayhawks scored
touchdowns on 10 consecutive possessions against
the Cornhuskers - amazing!
No. 1 Ohio State 38 No. 19 Wisconsin 17
Ohio State covered a 16-point spread by using
a stifling defense to hold Wisconsin to a mind-blowing
12 yards rushing on 37 attempts. Tailback Chris
Wells went wild for the Buckeyes in the second
half, rushing for three touchdowns.
No. 3 LSU 41 No. 18 Alabama 34
While No. 3 LSU
solidified their status as national championship
contender, the Alabama Tide managed to turn
this 7-point spread into a ‘push’ for
bettors by gamely hanging in against a clearly
better LSU team that could find itself playing
in the BCS title game.
No. 4 Oregon 35 No. 6 Arizona State 23
The Oregon Ducks covered the 8.5-point spread
against a solid Arizona State squad and scored
their second consecutive win over a Top 10 team
as quarterback Dennis Dixon tossed four touchdown
passes.
No. 9 Missouri 55 Colorado 10
The Tigers are
playing absolutely outstanding football at
the moment and dominated Colorado from start
to finish in their 55-10 shellacking over the
clueless Buffaloes. Mizzou signal caller Chase
Daniels looked like the second coming of Dan
Marino by throwing five touchdown passes against
Colorado’s overmatched defense.
No. 10 Georgia 44 Troy 34
Georgia may be
the No. 10 team in the country, but they didn’t come close to covering
the 14-point spread against a very good Troy
State team. Maybe it’s me, but I think
the Bulldogs are seriously overrated.
No. 12 Texas 38 Oklahoma State 35
Texas covered the
1.5-point spread, but certainly didn’t
look good in the process, needing a furious
rally to come back from a 21-point second half
deficit.
No. 14 Michigan 28 Michigan St. 24
Before anyone goes
and gets all excited, lets not forget that
the Wolverines were losing this game with just
over two minutes remaining before quarterback
Chad Henne tossed a 31-yard touchdown strike
to help the Wolverine eke out a close four-point
victory and turn this game into a “push” for
bettors.
No. 15 USC 24 Oregon St. 3
Yes, they blew their national championship title
hopes early in the season, but USC still managed
to cover a 16.5-point spread and may be one of
the best teams in the country to bet on down
the stretch in my opinion.
No. 17 Florida 49 Vanderbilt 22
The high-scoring Florida Gators proved they
can still put plenty of points on the board by
walloping Vanderbilt and covering a 14.5-point
spread.
No. 21 Cincinnati 38 South Florida 33
Hear that toilet
flushing? That’s South
Florida’s season being firmly sent into
the sewer system with their third consecutive
loss. I guess they didn’t cover the 5.5
points they were giving Cincinnati either now
did they?
No. 22 Boise State 42 San Jose State 7
Although I didn’t
make an official pick on this contest, I loved
Boise State to cover in this affair which they
certainly did against their beleaguered opponents
from San Diego State. Starting quarterback
Taylor Tharp threw three touchdown passes to
lead the Broncos to their seventh consecutive
victory.
No. 2 Florida State 27 Boston College 17
Although Boston College has had a fine season
this year, I knew two weeks ago when they beat
Virginia Tech with two last-minute touchdowns,
(to make me a loser), that this team was highly
overrated despite their terrific overall record.
The Seminoles made me look like a genius by,
not only covering the 6.5-point spread, but by
winning outright.
This week’s
upcoming Top 25 contests also offers college
football bettors several opportunities to make
successful wagers as many of the Top 10 teams
will be playing for a shot at playing in the
BCS Championship game.
As usual bettors,
do your homework before laying down your hard-earned
cash. However, when you find these free picks
that look just right to you – and there should be plenty this upcoming
weekend – don’t be afraid to pull
the trigger – you’ll likely end up
smiling – all the way to the bank.
