As bad as things
are for the Bills and their football betting
backers right now, they are about to get much,
much worse. They are 16.5-point dogs right
now and you should expect that to rise. There
is not even one stat that suggests they will
even still be in this game after only two quarters.
Not only that, but they don’t
even have the possible luxury of having the Patriots
looking past this game to Week 4, when they travel
to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals.

By displaying their
immediate and clear superiority in the Sunday
Night game against the Chargers, the Pats showed
resilience few teams would have after the controversy
they endured during the week: Cameragate. It
appears as if nothing is going to derail Belichick
and Kraft’s quest
to win another Super Bowl after their mistake
in playing hardball last season proved their
undoing, when they came one dropped pass short
of getting themselves to Super Bowl XLI.
There will be no ‘looking past’ games
for the Pats this year. There will be no need
to cheat, or get caught doing it. There will
only be a burning hunger to show the world what
they, at least, believe they are: one of the
best and most complete football teams ever.
The Bills, on the other hand, are a team in
transition. They have a mostly new defense and
a young and not-yet-proven offense that is a
one-trick pony: Losman to Lee Evans, deep (New
England cornerback Asante Samuel is licking his
chops). That will not cut it against many teams
in the league, and especially not the Pats, who
have allowed just two plays in two games of 20
yards or more. The Bills are the fourth-worst
in the league (after New Orleans, the Giants
and Cleveland) in this category, having allowed
10 plays of more than twenty yards.
Coming up against the top-rated quarterback
in the NFL, completing 79.7% of his passes, the
Bills are going to be crushed under the weight
of this well-oiled aerial assault.
The NFL betting total for this game is 42 points,
and that makes one wonder if the oddsmakers think
the Bills will be shut out of this matchup. Having
scored 38 points against the better defenses
of the Jets and the Chargers, the Patriots ought
to be able to at least do the same against the
anemic Buffalo D.
Take the over,
and don’t even think of
taking the Bills!
