NFL Football – The Furious
7 After Week 7

1. New England (7-0 SU, 7-0 ATS)
When the Patriots
launched back-to-back Randy bombs into double
coverage that both scored for touchdowns, everyone
I was watching the game with burst out laughing.
That was followed by a ream of “are you serious?” questions
punctuated by a stern “wow” that
hushed the room in to silence. New England is
the best bet going in the NFL and is surely rewarding
everyone who assumed the Brady-Moss connection
was going to set the league on fire.
Next game: Washington vs. New England (-16.5)
2. Indianapolis Colts (6-0 SU, 4-2 ATS)
Even if Garrard played, there was no way the
Colts were losing that game in prime time.
The Colts are simply seizing control of every
single game by efficiently running the ball
and throwing the ball. This team is fearless
on third down and faces a lowly Carolina team
as road favorites before clashing with New
England in Week 9.
Next game: Indianapolis (-6) vs. Carolina
3. Dallas Cowboys (6-1 SU, 5-2 ATS)
Just when Minnesota thought it could stage a
huge upset, the Cowboys blocked a field goal
and returned it to for a touchdown. Marion Barber
III is still making everyone across the nation
wonder why he is not the starting back yet, and
the Cowboys instilled some faith their betting
investors lost after going 1-3 ATS in the past
three games.
Next game: BYE WEEK
4. Green Bay Packers (5-1 SU, 4-1-1 ATS)
Green Bay rolls in to Mile High to face a team
that staged a huge upset over Pittsburgh. Green
Bay had a bye week to rest and figure out how
to kick-start their league-worst rushing attack.
But regardless, the Packers have rewarded their
betting faithful thus far by going 4-1-1 ATS.
Next game: Green Bay vs. Denver (-3)
5. New York Giants (5-2 SU, 5-2 ATS)
Think of the Giants
as a poor man’s New
England (a very poor man’s New England).
They have gone undefeated against opponents and
the spread in their last five games. Eli Manning
has shown (gasp!) consistency, and they have
five scoring threats. And their defense isn’t
half bad.
They get to beat up on the second-stringers
of the Dolphins this weekend, meaning their opponents
through six weeks have a combined record of 10-29.
Keep these Giants in perspective.
Next game: NYG (-9.5) vs. Miami
6. Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2 SU, 4-2 ATS)
The Steelers have
suffered two bewildering losses that is leaving
the betting community frazzled. If Mike Tomlin
was trying to catch Denver off guard by throwing
against the league’s
worst rushing defense, it didn’t work.
Denver upset Pittsburgh on a last second field-goal
despite Hines Ward’s return to action.
The Steelers have to stop playing tricks and
refocus as they travel to Paul Brown Stadium
to take on their most heated division rival.
Next game: Pittsburgh (-1) vs. Cincinnati
7. San Diego Chargers (3-3 SU, 3-3 ATS)
The Chargers make another appearance in the
Furious Seven after stepping aside for the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers, who lost to Detroit. San Diego
made the biggest splash at the trade deadline,
reeling in former Miami Dolphin Chris Chambers.
The team was just hitting its stride before forest
fires put the entire West Coast on high alert.
It will be interesting to see if the Chargers
can rebound from the hectic change of pace the
relocation to Arizona, or if they will be treated
like the New Orleans Saints of 2005 were. Either
way, this team is on the cusp of a resurgence
and needs to stay focused on football if it hopes
to fend off the surprising Chiefs.
Next game: Houston vs. San Diego (-11)
