The Furious
Seven, Top NFL Teams After Week 2

Articles
1. New England Patriots (2-0 SU, 2-0 ATS)
The Patriots annihilated
the Chargers on Sunday night TV, which may
help displace the grief caused by the Red Sox
losing to Jeter’s home-run
and the Yankees. It also erased any doubt concerning
Bill Belichek’s genius as a head coach.
The defense shut down Tomlinson to 43 rushing
yards and picked off Philip Rivers twice. All
this was without Richard Seymour and Rodney Harrison.
They are the best team in football by a longshot
right now. Next game: Buffalo vs. New England
(-14)
2. Indianapolis Colts (2-0 SU, 1-1 ATS)
Why are they still up
here? The Titans are way better than people think
they are, and they always play the Colts to the
bone. Keep an eye and be wary of investing your
betting dollars on these Colts as the oddsmakers
shrink the line against them. But don’t
lose faith in their chances of making the playoffs.
Next game: Indianapolis (-5) vs. Houston
3. Dallas Cowboys (2-0 SU, 2-0 ATS)
In two weeks, they have
murdered the spread, Marion Barber continues
to look unstoppable and Tony Romo has been playing
with that ever-important swagger. The big key
here, however, is the secondary picked off Trent
Green four times giving them redemption after
being spanked by Plaxico Burress in week one.
Their next tilt against Chicago will prove just
how good this Dallas offense really is, but for
now they look like the new beast in the East.
Next game: Dallas vs. Chicago (-3)
4. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0 SU, 2-0 ATS)
Granted they’ve
only beaten up the Browns and the Bills so
far, but Pittsburgh looks strong. The Steelers
are the first AFC team to reach 500 wins, a
total they will surely add to as their smothering
defense and their refreshingly dynamic offense
continue to roll on through the NFL. Baltimore
and Cincinnati look soft and vulnerable and
the Steelers are virtually a betting lock to
win the AFC North. Next game: San Francisco vs.
Pittsburgh (-8.5)
5. San Diego Chargers (1-1 SU, 1-1 SU)
After solving the
fierce Bears’ defense
last week, the Chargers got embarrassed by the
Patriots’ stifling, ball-hawking defense.
Phillip Rivers does not look like an elite passer
at all, which causes the stock of guys like Vincent
Jackson to tumble. LDT can only do so much, but
against the Patriots, he couldn’t get anything
going. The Chargers got
left off last week’s
list because of some squirrelly NFC teams that
were worth a look, but they deserve to be in
the top-5 despite getting pasted by the juggernaut
that is the Patriots. You might be thinking that
LDT will find room to run against Green Bay,
but this defense is better than you might think.
The Pack could be bad news because the Chargers
don’t just need a win, they need a squash
to separate themselves from the pack again. Next
game: San Diego (-3.5) vs. Green Bay
6. Chicago Bears (1-1 SU, 0-2 ATS)
Devin Hester is
up to his old tricks again, which is a good
thing if Unsexy Rexy is going to be throwing
like that all season. The Chiefs are a terrible
football team, and if it wasn’t
for Hester’s 73 yard punt return, they
may have challenged the Bears in this one. The
Bears are going to have to prove they can hang
with the best against Dallas next weekend. The
oddsmakers are having a tough time measuring
the Bears as well. They couldn’t hang with
the Chargers at plus-6, and they couldn’t
get away from the Chiefs at minus-13. With a
tight line this weekend, it’s obvious that
the guys down in Vegas are starting to close
the gap on Grossman’s ability to stretch
the score. Next game: Dallas vs. Chicago (-3)
7. Seattle Seahawks (1-1 SU, 1-1 ATS)
I don’t know what
is more unbelievable – the
fact that two pro-bowl veterans botched a handoff
so badly, or the fact that the Cardinals were
on the other side of a fourth quarter comeback!
Seattle’s defense suffocated Leinart and
the offense until the they went into shock in
the fourth quarter over Hasselbeck’s astonishing
fumble. The test against the Bengals will go
a long way in figuring out where this Seahawks
team really stands, and whether they are worth
a long-term betting investment from you. Next
game: Cincinnati vs. Seattle (-3)
