Sunday's NFL betting action was highlighted
by the much anticipated matchup between the New
England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts which
lived up to its enormous hype.
It was the first ever meeting in NFL history
between two unbeaten teams this deep into the
season. When the smoked cleared, the scoreboard
read New England 24 Indianapolis 20.
For one auspicious
second at the RCA Dome, the Colts had a chance
to seize control of the 2007 season and to
become the undisputed heavyweight champions
of the football world. But they failed, however,
they were able to profit for their investors
by covering the number as the 5½-point
underdogs.
The Colts are now 7-1 SU (straight up) and 6-2
ATS (against the spread). The loss ended Indianapolis'
twelve-game win streak.
New England, which had been scoring more than
41 points a game, improved to 9-0 SU and 8-1
ATS. They are the biggest money-makers in the
NFL.
The win also keeps the Patriots on course for
the NFL's first unbeaten season since Miami did
it 1972 and gives them the first tiebreaker over
Indianapolis in the AFC playoffs. After a bye
week the Patriots, with victories over the Bills,
Eagles, Ravens, Steelers, Jets, Dolphins and
Giants, could very plausibly end up 16-0.
Sunday's NFL action yielded a 7-6 ATS record
in slight favor of the favorites. The O/U mark
on the day was 8-4-1 generated by high-scoring
games which included the nightcap between the
Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.
Quarterback Tony Romo threw three touchdown
passes in the 38-17 Dallas victory. Terrell Owens
caught 10 passes for 174 yards and one touchdown.
Marion Barber had 106 total yards and one score
and NFC East-leading Dallas improved to 7-1 SU
(6-2 ATS) for the first time since 1995, their
last Super Bowl winning season.
The last-place Eagles were dominated on both
sides. It's the worst start for Philadelphia
since Andy Reid became coach in 1999. The Eagles
fell to 3-5 SU and ATS.
Quarterback Donovan McNabb was harassed often
and pounded into the ground a few times. The
five-time Pro Bowler was 27-for-46 for 264 yards,
one touchdown, two interceptions and he was sacked
three times.
In what was the biggest surprise of the day,
the San Diego Chargers lost a November game for
the first time since 2003 and reverted to the
shaky play on both sides of the ball that led
to a 1-3 SU start.
LaDainian Tomlinson rushed 16 times for 40 yards,
and Philip Rivers went 19-for-42 for 197 yards
with one interception.
The Chargers' defense that ranked seventh in
the league against the run was shredded by rookie
running back Adrian Peterson, who ran for a record
296 yards in the 35-17 Minnesota win as the touchdown
underdogs.
The Vikings improved to 3-5 SU and 3-3-2 ATS,
as the Chargers fell to 4-4 SU and ATS.
It was another fantastic Sunday and there's more
great NFL betting excitement to come in Week
10. So be sure to take advantage of all our early
