When it comes to NFL betting and regular season
win totals, like Lindsay Lohan's song Over or
Evanescence's Going Under, there's only two ways
to go. In the first of our eight division previews,
we examine the NFL odds for regular season wins
in the AFC East:
Buffalo Bills
This might surprise you: the Bills won seven
games last season.
The Bills did lose some key veterans in the
offseason and have the makeup of a young team
that might get better on the field, but finish
with an extra loss or two.
It’s hard to gage a young team, though.
Their offense will be extremely capable as they
build a St. Louis Rams-type model. With quarterback
J.P. Losman’s growth, along with the development
of several other young parts on this team, you
never know when they will burst out.
The one thing that
deters from thinking ‘over’ is
the fact that the New England Patriots, New York
Jets and Miami Dolphins are all stronger this
season.

Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins went from Super Bowl sleeper to
catastrophic failure when the acquisition of
Daunte Culpepper failed last season.
But now with a new head coach and a veteran,
proven quarterback, the Dolphins might be more
of a contender than most people perceive.
Their defense is strong with playmakers galore
in the front seven and the secondary figures
to be improved.
If Green can step in and make the offense function
fluidly, it will have a ripple effect on the
production of Ronnie Brown, Chris Chambers and
Ted Ginn Jr.
Don’t underestimate
this veteran team. They won six games without
a reasonable quarterback; Green should make
at least a two-win difference.

New England Patriots
The Patriots were old, beat up and decrepit
last year. Their wide receiving corps was non-existant.
But even after an offseason where the Pats acquired
Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth, Wes Welker, Adalius
Thomas and Brandon Meriweather, there is no guarantee
the Patriots will go over the total set.
For starters, Bill Belichick likes to play the
underdog role and cares not for regular season
accomplishments. He may dog a few games against
teams that he may face later on in the playoffs.
On top of that, the
Patriots – being the
Patriots – will have one of the tougher
schedules in the NFL. 10 wins is a sure thing.
Asking them to get beyond 11 is not.
NFL Odds For Regular Season Wins: 11.5

New York Jets
The Jets, without
a running game and with a makeshift defense,
won 10 games last season. In the second year
of this system, with a proven running back
and more defensive playmakers, why shouldn’t
they win at least eight?
This total represents more of what the public
perceives rather than what is the reality.
The public perceives the Jets to be a one-year
fluke but with head coach Eric Mangini, who is
a disciple of Bill Belichick - it might be time
to think differently.
When Belichick’s
Patriots shot out of the dark and surprised,
they were doubted the following season again.
But Belichick and Mangini have proven that
they can achieve success without A-list celebrities.
The public doesn’t like this team mostly
because they don’t have any tangible superstars.
That shouldn’t matter; they will get to
at least eight wins.
