Monday Night Football Betting: 49ers
vs. Seahawks
If there is one
game this season where the Seahawks need to
get their act together and look like defending
division champs, it is this Sunday against
the 49ers, a team that beat them twice last
season, but that is reeling and disorganized
right now. With a win, the ‘Hawks could
be looking at a two-game lead in a very weak
division. A loss and they could find themselves
a half-game behind the Cardinals. NFL betting
experts are thinking it is very unlikely that
the Seahawks will lose this game; they are ten-point
home favorites.
San Francisco 49ers
+10 @ Seattle Seahawks –10
The biggest concern
for Seattle has to be the running game, or
the lack thereof. Former NFL rushing leader
and league MVP Shaun Alexander looks like he
is afraid of contact and done with this game.
His offensive line is not helping matters.
They have been unable to finish blocks and
can’t move the pile forward. Even when
Alexander, however, does find some space, he
looks uninterested in making cuts and big plays
for him are but a memory. If he keeps this up,
he’ll lose his starting job to backup Maurice
Morris, who is playing with a lot more grit and
determination.
While the ‘Hawks
running game seems to have decided to take
this season off, quarterback Matt Hasselbeck
has been doing a good job considering that
defenses can see they hardly have to play to
stop the run. He leads the 10th-ranked passing
offense even though there can be very little
play-action passing due to no run support and
the fact that this means opponents are laying
back in coverage, waiting for him to try to beat
them.
Expect the 49ers
to blitz early and often to get Hasselbeck
off his game. This would be the perfect week
for Alexander to start looking like a football
player, as the Niners tend to over-commit and
leave open the possibility of a cutback run
for huge gains. With the extra space in the middle
of the field, the ‘Hawks should try some
quick slants to tight end Marcus Pollard. They
will, and this could spell disaster for the 49ers,
as they are not playing well enough right now
to adjust to what can be a dynamic offense.
This game, and your football betting bankroll
should you bet on either of these teams, rests
on the back of Shaun Alexander to help Seattle
get things started. He can do it, but does he
want to?
