NFL Betting - NFC South Divisional Preview

Talking about NFL
betting is like talking about Jessica Alba:
there is never a bad time to start the conversation.
With that in mind, let’s
bring up some NFL odds into the discussion as
we breakdown the fifth of our eight divisional
stops with the NFC South:
Atlanta Falcons
The Michael Vick saga will hurt the Falcons
but this could be a blessing in disguise.
The Falcons now have an out for his lofty contract
and he was never a good passer to begin with.
Joey Harrington is in his best situation to
succeed and he finally has no pressure to perform.
This could be his chance to finally shine.
Look for the maligned Falcons receivers to perform
at a much higher level now that they have a real
quarterback throwing to them.
With a new offensive scheme
and the team transitioning from Vick and Dunn,
to Harrington and Jerious Norwood, expect this
to be a developmental year. NFL Odds To Win NFC
South: +475
Carolina Panthers
This time last year, the Panthers were talked
about as potential Super Bowl contenders. A year
later, nobody seems to know what to expect.
The offensive line
should be much improved if they don’t
lose their starting center and left tackle
for the season again, which inherently will
help Jake Delhomme bounce back from his awful
season.
The running game needs to step up and DeAngelo
Williams has to be the guy to carry the load.
There are many questions facing this team. Who
will be the second receiving target in the offense
besides Steve Smith? Can Dan Morgan stay healthy
for a season? Who will play safety for this team?
There is still a lot of
potential but far less certainties this time
around. NFL Odds To Wins NFC South: +150
New Orleans Saints
If you’re wondering
what a Pro Bowl quarterback can do for your
offense, just ask the New Orleans Saints. They
went from outhouse to penthouse in one season
and are the favorites to repeat as division
champs.
Expect the road back to be much more arduous
with a strengthened schedule and the element
of surprise no longer present.
The Saints offense
should be just as good as last year’s
outfit, assuming the wide receivers continue
in their development.
The defense is more
likely to come back down to Earth; they don’t
have nearly as much talent and thrived off
of confidence last season. NFL Odds To Win NFC
South: EV
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs went from 11 wins and the division
crown in 2005, to four wins and last place in
2006.
The Buccaneers are somewhere in between but
most of their success is contingent on the performance
on the line of scrimmage.
They have been retooling their offensive line
for years and it should finally be consistent,
like it was in 2005.
They will be protecting Jeff Garcia, who should
thrive under Jon Gruden. Be it Rich Gannon or
Brian Griese, Gruden has done an excellent job
of milking veteran quarterbacks in the NFL.
The ripple effect will be felt throughout the
offense. Running backs that have played with
Garcia in the past have been averaged around
1500 total yards.
On defense, with Monte
Kiffin still running the show, the Bucs could
be top 10 once again – they
have been almost every season with Kiffin as
their defensive coordinator.
The Bucs are a real
wild card. They probably aren’t as good
as 11 wins, like in 2005 but are much better
than the four-win team from last season. NFL
