Denver Broncos
What to love: The running-game. Nothing new
here. Mike Bell and Travis Henry are going to
give their fantasy owners fits, but the betting
investor can remain faithful in the Broncos ability
to control the clock with a stiff running game
that has two talented backs.
What to hate: Jay
Cutler doesn’t look
especially good. Granted, the quarterback position
has never needed to be great for this team to
do well (read: Jake Plummer) but Cutler may be
in for a steeper learning curve than people imagine.
The defense, surprisingly,
wasn’t all
that impressive in Denver. They allowed 348.2
yards per game and team’s practically had
a cake walk on third downs against the Broncos.
Dre Bly and Champ Bailey will make it impossible
to throw against Denver, but who’s going
to stop the run?
I also hate the odds on the Broncos. They failed
to make the playoffs, and though everyone is
rallying behind Cutler, do not be caught dead
betting on the kid, or their +1800 odds to win
Superbowl XLII, to carry the Broncos to the playoffs,
let alone on the promise land.
Kansas City Chiefs
What to love: Uh…Larry
Johnson got paid?
What to hate: Everything.
The defense is inconsistent. Larry Johnson
has the Curse of 370 looming over his head
and Brodie Croyle looked atrocious in the preseason.
And atrocious is being generous to the kid.
Damon Huard is decent, but nobody is scared
of him. Especially when he’s
a 37 year old, second year starter.
Oakland Raiders
What to love: That they try so darn hard! All
kidding aside, the defense is easily a top-10
in the league with a secondary and linebacker
unit that has the chemistry, discipline and ferocity
to make plays.
They have four running backs that they can lean
on. Michael Bush is my favorite sleeper of the
season, but Justin Fargas is about ready to break
out and Lamont Jordan will be leaned on heavily.
What to hate: The
offensive line and the quarterback situation.
If Daunte Culpepper is fully healed then he
has a chance to succeed, because he’ll
have two good knees to run with as defensive
ends harass him like a drunk blonde during the
first week of freshman year. Quite frankly, I’m
sick and tired of ripping in to Robert Gallery.
It’s not even fun anymore. Why does he
still have a job?
San Diego Chargers
What to love: Everything.
Norv Turner turns to his biggest weapons because
he’s scared
to do anything otherwise. This is a guy who would
sit on sixteen at a blackjack table every single
time. LaDanian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates are
in for great years, as usual, but receiver Vincent
Jackson has been incredible as the number one
receiver for the Bolts. Philip Rivers really
needs to give Eli Manning a hug for what happened
at the draft, because Rivers could not be in
a better situation.
The Chargers should be the only team you even
think about betting on when it comes to the AFC
West on in the upcoming 2007 NFL season. At +600
the oddsmakers are giving them the nod as the
second most favored team to win the big one at
the end of the year.
What to hate: Not
much. Really, not much. The only thing I hate
is that Michael Turner isn’t
related to Norv because that would just be hilarious
and nepotism would definitely affect the chemistry
of the team. But I’m digressing...
