Comments & Notes Coming Soon... |
1. |
New
England Patriots |
Surprised? You shouldn't be. Sure they didn't cover, but they beat the reigning Super Bowl champs at home. And they still have the best ATS and SU record in football. |
2. |
Indianapolis
Colts |
Hopefully Marvin Harrison will be back this weekend, painful knee or not. The Colts seemed to lack explosiveness on offense without him. |
3. |
Dallas
Cowboys |
The one thing that's kept
the Cowboys from being dominant ATS is a reliable defense. If defensive
tackle Tank Johnson is 100 percent (and gets permits for his firearms),
they'll improve in that area. |
4. |
Pittsburgh
Steelers |
Count me in among those who didn't think the
Steel could cover the 10 points against a defense like the Baltimore
Ravens. Little did I realize that Pittsburgh's defense could be better. |
5. |
Green
Bay Packers |
Here's something I didn't
realize, and it's probably the reason the Packers have been such
a great bet all year: Of the seven times they covered the spread,
they've been favorites only twice. |
6. |
New
York Giants |
My trust in them has wavered after they let
the NFL's equivalent to Appalachian State, the Miami Dolphins, keep
them from their sixth-straight cover. That'll change if they can
beat the Cowboys this weekend. |
7. |
Tennessee
Titans |
The Titans' air attack is
still having trouble with altitude, but it doesn't matter. As long
as the defense keeps breaking down O-lines to catch the quarterback,
keep betting on them ATS. And keep an eye on the total – they're
the best under play in the NFL at 1-7 OU. |
8. |
Detroit
Lions |
The Lions have done it in the air. They've
done it on the ground. And now they're doing it with defense. In
the past three weeks, they've held opponents to just 10 points per
game. |
9. |
Cleveland
Browns |
Derek Anderson is having
a Pro-Bowl season, and the Browns have been one of the best bets
because of it. My question is: With Anderson only playing in his
third season, do they even need Brady Quinn as their QB for the future? |
10. |
Jacksonville
Jaguars |
The Jaguars got in a shootout with the Saints
in Week 9. Unfortunately, they were packing a pocketknife at quarterback
- Quinn Gray. Original starter David Garrard should be back to get
them on track this weekend, but keep in mind they'll be facing the
Titans and their stifling defense. |
11. |
New
Orleans Saints |
The Saints are back. The
past four games, anyway. They've averaged 30.5 points per game in
their last four, helping post a 3-1 record ATS and OU. |
12. |
Washington
Redskins |
The Redskins continue to struggle with their
air attack (they rank 26th with 181.4 passing yards per game), and
it has hurt them ATS. They failed to cover in their last three games. |
13. |
Tampa
Bay Bucs |
You have to commend Jon Gruden
for getting his Bucs on top of the NFC South, despite having so many
injuries on offense. But it's hard to trust them with no stars on
offense. |
14. |
San
Diego Chargers |
You betrayed me, Chargers. I thought the "Lights
Out" defense was back after watching you plow through the Texans,
Raiders and Broncos. Then, "Purple Jesus" came along and made you
look like terry cloth. I’m not trusting you again until you
make it through the AFC South (they play Indy and Jacksonville in
Weeks 10 and 11) unscathed. |
15. |
Kansas
City Chiefs |
I wasn't even sure how they
were winning and covering with Larry Johnson. Now, how are they going
to do it without him? |
16. |
Seattle
Seahawks |
The Seahawks cannot count on Shaun Alexander
this year for production. That means the 'Hawks can't be trusted
ATS. |
17. |
Baltimore
Ravens |
It's beyond me how coach
Brian Billick is sticking with Steve McNair. He looked like a punch-drunk
boxer on Monday Night Football. |
18. |
Buffalo
Bills |
With or without a conservative QB like Trent
Edwards, the Bills are hot. Ride them until Marshawn Lynch's wheels
fall off. |
19. |
Carolina
Panthers |
You were sacked how many
times by the Titans' David Carr - seven? Texans fans, stop giggling.
The poor kid obviously is a magnet for defensive linemen. Can't believe
I'm saying it, but the Panthers need 43-year-old dino-QB Vinny Testaverde
under center to have a chance at beating future spreads. |
20. |
Houston
Texans |
I know injuries killed the Texans' progress
this year, but can someone put Mario Williams on a milk carton? He
helped Houston forget about passing on Reggie Bush and Vince Young
for about a week. Since then, he's been useless. |
21. |
Arizona
Cardinals |
After starting the season
4-0 ATS, they are 1-3 ATS in their last four. It's starting to look
like oddsmakers have figured this team out. They were never any good,
but at least they were beating the odds. |
22. |
Philadelphia
Eagles |
Donovan McNabb has 2,044 passing yards, eight
TDs and four INTs so far this year. Does he really deserve to lose
his job to rookie QB Kevin Kolb? |
23. |
Minnesota
Vikings |
I don't know where I read
it, but someone gave Adrian Peterson the perfect nickname after he
ran for a record-breaking 296 yards – "Purple Jesus." I'm gonna
pray to "Jesus" he keeps getting 30 carries per game for the rest
of the year. |
24. |
Chicago
Bears |
The Bears rank 31st on rushing offense, 22nd
in passing defense, 26th in rushing defense and 22nd in points allowed.
Face it, Chicago fans, these are numbers you'd see from a rebuilding
team. |
25. |
Denver
Broncos |
The Broncos better hope Jay
Cutler can play on Sunday. He was the only thing keeping them from
turning into one of the worst teams in the AFC. |
26. |
Cincinnati
Bengals |
Since the 2006 season, the Bengals are 7-3
ATS when they score 25 points or more. They've averaged 21 in their
last five. |
27. |
Oakland
Raiders |
Lane Kiffin decided to make
Josh McCown the starting QB again and got 158 yards, one TD and three
INTs from him last week. Kiffin would look like a fool if he goes
back to Daunte Culpepper, so expect to see McCown until rookie JaMarcus
Russell is ready. Don't expect the Raiders to cover consistently
until then either. |
28. |
Atlanta
Falcons |
There are a lot of bad teams in the NFL, proven
by the fact that the Atlanta Falcons are 5-3 ATS with a flop at QB
and an aging running back. |
29. |
San
Francisco 49ers |
The offense will stay grounded
as long as Alex Smith is under center. |
30. |
New
York Jets |
Despite losing their sixth in a row 23-20,
the Jets covered, and the offense looked promising with second-year
QB Kellen Clemens under center. |
31. |
St.
Louis Rams |
We'll see what the Rams
can do in the second half when they face New Orleans this Sunday. |
32. |
Miami
Dolphins |
Hey Cam Cameron, if Dan Marino is lobbying
for rookie QB John Beck to start, maybe you should listen. |
