Final Score: Carolina 13, Seattle 10
Charlotte, NC (My Sportsbook) - DeAngelo Williams'
35-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter
was the difference, as Carolina earned a 13-10
victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Williams finished
with 61 yards on 15 carries and Matt Moore threw
for 208 yards for the Panthers (6-8), who have
won two of their last three games after a five-game
losing streak. Moore became the fourth different
quarterback to start a game this season for Carolina,
as an Achilles injury kept Vinny Testaverde sidelined.
Moore connected on 19- of-27 passes without an
interception. Steve Smith caught eight balls
for 72 yards. Matt Hasselbeck completed 27-of-41
passes for 274 yards and a touchdown for Seattle
(9-5), which has already clinched the NFC West
title. Shaun Alexander gained 17 yards on seven
touches for an ineffective Seahawk rushing game
that managed just 44 yards for the contest.
Final Score: Cleveland 8, Buffalo 0
Cleveland, OH (My Sportsbook) - Jamal Lewis
ran for 163 yards, and Phil Dawson booted a pair
of field goals in blizzard-like conditions as
Cleveland downed Buffalo, 8-0, to inch closer
to its first postseason berth since 2002. Lewis
got stronger as the game proceeded, however,
and keyed a late drive that siphoned over four
minutes off the clock, leaving Buffalo with under
two minutes to go in its last possession. The
snow had let up by that point and Trent Edwards
took advantage, leading the Bills all the way
to the Browns 10- yard-line with under 20 seconds
to go. On fourth down, Buffalo went to the screen
but Fred Jackson was stuffed for no gain as Cleveland
held on for the victory. Derek Anderson completed
just 9-of-24 passes for 137 yards for the Browns
(9-5), who snapped a three-game skid versus Buffalo
but failed to clinch at least a wild card spot
when Tennessee came back to beat Kansas City.
Cleveland did tie Pittsburgh atop the AFC North,
however, and can clinch a playoff appearance
with a win at Cincinnati next week. Braylon Edwards
finished with four receptions for 64 yards for
Cleveland. Trent Edwards connected on just 12-of-32
passes for 124 yards for the Bills (7-7), who
lost for the first time in three games and were
officially eliminated from the playoff race.
Rookie Marshawn Lynch rushed for 82 yards on
21 carries for Buffalo.
Final Score: Tennessee 26, Kansas City 17
Kansas City, MO (My Sportsbook) - Vince Young
threw for 191 yards and a pair of touchdowns,
and Rob Bironas booted four field goals as Tennessee
downed Kansas City, 26-17, to keep its playoff
hopes alive at Arrowhead Stadium. Young added
another 32 yards on the ground for the Titans
(8-6), who won for the second time in three games
but remained one game back in the AFC wild card
race. LenDale White ran for 93 yards on 24 carries
and Roydell Williams caught four passes for 94
yards and both Young touchdowns. Brodie Croyle
completed 25-of-43 passes for 217 yards with
two touchdowns and two interceptions for the
reeling Chiefs (4-10), who have lost seven straight
games for the first time since 1987. Kolby Smith
ran for 82 yards on 18 carries and Dwayne Bowe
had five receptions for 64 yards.
Final Score: Miami 22, Baltimore 16 (OT)
Miami, FL (My Sportsbook) - Cleo Lemon's 64-yard
touchdown pass to Greg Camarillo in overtime
gave the Miami Dolphins their first win of the
season with a 22-16 victory over the Baltimore
Ravens. The Ravens tied it in the closing seconds
on an 18-yard field goal by Matt Stover, then
marched into scoring range with the first possession
of the extra period. Stover, though, hooked a
44-yard field goal attempt wide left. Miami took
over on its own 34-yard line and, on the third
play, hit it big. Lemon threw a quick slant pass
to Camarillo, who caught the ball in stride and
raced untouched to the end zone for his first
NFL touchdown to set off a wild celebration at
Dolphin Stadium. Lemon, back in the starter's
role after rookie John Beck's four- game run,
completed 23-of-39 passes for 315 yards in the
victory. Miami (1-13) snapped a 16-game losing
streak dating back to last season and won for
the first time since a 21-0 triumph over New
England last December 10. Willis McGahee rushed
for 104 yards and Kyle Boller threw for 159 yards
with a score for the Ravens (4-10), who now own
the league's longest losing streak at eight games.
Boller left the contest in the fourth quarter
with a concussion.
Final Score: New England 20, NY Jets 10
Foxboro, MA (My Sportsbook) - Laurence Maroney
rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on a career-best
26 carries and Eugene Wilson returned an interception
for a score as the New England Patriots hung
on to remain perfect with a 20-10 victory over
the New York Jets in miserable conditions at
Gillette Stadium. Tom Brady threw for just 140
yards and a pick on 14- of-27 passes for the
Patriots (14-0), who locked up home field advantage
throughout the playoffs. In addition, New England
becomes just the second team in NFL history to
be 14-0. The 1972 Miami Dolphins completed that
season's 14-game slate unbeaten en route to a
legendary Super Bowl-winning campaign. The Patriots
have not lost in the regular season since a 21-0
setback against the Dolphins in Miami on December
10, 2006, a span of 17 contests. New England
looks to become the first team in league history
to sport a 15-0 mark next Sunday at Miami, which
won its first game of the season, a 22-16 overtime
triumph over Baltimore. Chad Pennington was solid
in defeat, completing 25-of-38 passes for 186
yards for the Jets (3-11), who have dropped three
of four. Starter Kellen Clemens was knocked out
after one play, an interception returned for
a TD by Wilson. Chris Baker caught eight balls
for 66 yards and Leon Washington gained 57 yards
on four carries in defeat.
Final Score: New Orleans 31, Arizona 24
New Orleans, LA (My Sportsbook) - Drew Brees
completed 26-of-30 passes for 315 yards and a
pair of touchdowns and the New Orleans Saints
took advantage of some costly Arizona turnovers
to keep their playoff hopes alive with a 31-24
victory over the Cardinals at the Louisiana Superdome.
Marques Colston had eight catches for 114 yards
and a score and Aaron Stecker again carried the
load sufficiently in the absence of Reggie Bush,
rushing for 95 yards and two touchdowns. The
Saints (7-7) will face Philadelphia next Sunday,
and are for the moment, a half-game behind Minnesota
for the second and final NFC wild card berth.
Kurt Warner threw for 233 yards and three touchdowns,
but had an interception and lost a key fumble
that ultimately may have eliminated Arizona (6-8)
from the postseason conversation. Edgerrin James
rushed for 84 yards and Anquan Boldin had six
catches for 83 yards in his first game back from
a toe injury. A Vikings win over the Bears Monday
night would officially remove the Cardinals from
playoff contention by virtue of their November
26 loss in Minnesota.
Final Score: Jacksonville 29, Pittsburgh 22
Pittsburgh, PA (My Sportsbook) - Fred Taylor
scored on a 12-yard run with 1:57 remaining to
give the Jacksonville Jaguars a 29-22 victory
over the Pittsburgh Steelers at a snowy Heinz
Field. Taylor ran for 147 yards on 25 carries
and Maurice Jones-Drew added 69 yards on the
ground for the Jaguars (10-4), who gutted the
Steeler defense for 224 rushing yards and moved
closer to clinching a playoff spot. David Garrard
completed 17-of-33 passes for 197 yards with
three touchdowns and one interception in the
victory. Jacksonville has won two straight and
five of its last six games. Ben Roethlisberger
threw three touchdown passes for the Steelers
(9-5), who have lost two in a row for the first
time this season. Pittsburgh is tied with Cleveland
for first place in the AFC North, but holds the
tiebreaker advantage over the Browns based on
a head-to-head sweep.
Final Score: Green Bay 33, St. Louis 14
St. Louis, MO (My Sportsbook) - Brett Favre
threw for 227 yards with two touchdowns and set
another record, as the Green Bay Packers downed
the St. Louis Rams, 33-14, at the Edward Jones
Dome. With the victory and Seattle's loss to
the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, the Packers
clinched a first-round bye in the playoffs for
the first time since 1997. Green Bay also moved
into a tie for the top spot in the NFC as Dallas
lost to Philadelphia later on Sunday. Favre,
who completed 19-of-30 passes with two interceptions,
surpassed Hall of Famer Dan Marino for the NFL's
all-time record for most career passing yards.
He came into the contest needing 184 yards to
break Marino's mark of 61,361. Needing just one
more yard, the veteran set the new record early
in the fourth quarter after completing a seven-yard
pass to Donald Driver. Driver ended with five
catches for 80 yards while Greg Jennings caught
four passes for 66 yards and a touchdown for
the Packers (12-2), who have won 16 of their
past 18 games dating back to last season. Ryan
Grant led Green Bay's ground game with 55 yards
and a score. Steven Jackson carried the ball
24 times for 143 yards with a touchdown and Torry
Holt had a touchdown grab for the Rams (3-11),
who have lost two straight. St. Louis signal-caller
Marc Bulger returned to action after missing
the last two weeks with a concussion and completed
20-of-39 passes for 219 yards with a touchdown
and two picks.
Final Score: Tampa Bay 37, Atlanta 3
Tampa, FL (My Sportsbook) - Michael Spurlock
had the first kickoff return for a touchdown
in Buccaneers history, and Ronde Barber returned
an interception for a score only a minute into
the game as Tampa Bay ripped the Atlanta Falcons,
37-3, to clinch the NFC South. Jeff Garcia, who
started after missing the better part of three
games with a back injury, completed 15- of-25
passes for 109 yards, a touchdown, and an interception
for the Buccaneers (9-5), who have rebounded
nicely from a 4-12 campaign in 2006 to win their
second division title in three years. Earnest
Graham was the leading rusher and receiver for
Tampa Bay, with 22 carries for 79 yards and a
score, and five catches for 40 yards. Chris Redman
had an awful game for Atlanta (3-10), completing
only 4-of-15 passes for 34 yards with two interceptions
and a fumble. Jerious Norwood gained 73 yards
on nine carries for the Falcons, who lost their
fifth straight, and put up some embarrassing
offensive numbers in the process. The Falcons
managed only 133 total yards, and five first
downs - only one through the air. Atlanta went
0- for-9 on third-down conversions.
Final Score: Indianapolis 21, Oakland 14
Oakland, CA (My Sportsbook) - The Indianapolis
Colts stopped the Oakland Raiders on fourth down
late in the contest and held on for a 21-14 victory
to earn the AFC South title, as well as a first-round
bye. Kelvin Hayden knocked down a pass intended
for Oakland's Jerry Porter with 1:50 remaining
on fourth down to seal the victory for the Colts
(12-2), who wrapped up their fifth straight division
title. Peyton Manning completed 22-of-39 passes
for 276 yards with a touchdown and an interception
in the victory. Joseph Addai accounted for 44
of the Colts' 58 total rushing yards and Anthony
Gonzalez was Indy's leading receiver with 86
yards on seven catches to go along with a touchdown.
Josh McCown connected on 13-of-24 passes for
94 yards and a touchdown in the loss for the
Raiders (4-10), who have lost at least 10 games
for the last five seasons. Top overall pick JaMarcus
Russell also appeared in limited action and completed
2-of-5 passes for 10 yards. Justin Fargas touched
the ball 26 times, gaining 89 yards and found
the end zone once in defeat. Fargas left the
game in the fourth quarter with a knee injury
and remained on the sideline. Porter caught four
passes for 32 yards, while Ronald Curry caught
three passes for 23 yards and a touchdown.
Final Score: Philadelphia 10, Dallas 6
Irving, TX (My Sportsbook) - Donovan McNabb
completed 23-of-41 passes for 208 yards and a
touchdown and the Eagles defense intercepted
Dallas quarterback Tony Romo three times on its
way to snapping a seven-game Cowboys win streak
with a 10-6 victory at Texas Stadium. Brian Westbrook
rushed for 81 yards and caught nine passes for
63 yards, while Brian Dawkins provided the final
pick of Romo to thwart a potential go-ahead scoring
drive from Dallas. Reggie Brown caught the only
touchdown of the game, and Philadelphia (6-8)
kept its very slim playoff hopes afloat with
the win. The Eagles remain mathematically alive
for the final NFC Wild Card slot, though a Minnesota
victory Monday night against Chicago would make
that possibility increasingly less likely. Romo
finished 13-for-36 through the air, and saw his
streak of 17 consecutive games with a touchdown
pass come to an end. A reported thumb injury
may have contributed to his erratic passing,
as well as a pair of fumbles that were recovered
by the Cowboys. Jason Witten had eight catches
for 113 yards, but Dallas' running game was totally
abandoned, with the two-headed backfield of Marion
Barber and Julius Jones combining for 37 yards
on 14 carries. Terrell Owens, the former Eagle
who went off for 174 receiving yards in Dallas'
38-17 win at Philadelphia November 4, was limited
to two catches for 37 yards, and was shut out
entirely through three quarters. The loss leaves
Dallas (12-2) in a tie for the top spot in the
NFC with Green Bay, meaning home-field advantage
in the playoffs will come down to the final two
weeks. The Cowboys close out the regular season
with back-to-back road games against Carolina
and Washington. The Packers will take on the
Bears in Chicago and then finish with a home
game against Detroit. By virtue of their 37-27
win over Green Bay last month, the Cowboys do
hold the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Packers
should the two teams finish with identical records.
Final Score: San Diego 51, Detroit 14
San Diego, CA (My Sportsbook) - LaDainian Tomlinson
had a pair of touchdowns as the San Diego Chargers
clinched the AFC West with a 51-14 pounding of
the Detroit Lions at Qualcomm Stadium. Tomlinson
finished the day with 116 yards on 15 carries
for San Diego (9-5), which has won four straight
and clinched its second straight division title.
His second touchdown of the game was the 127th
of his career, which moved him past Jim Brown
for seventh place on the all-time list. He did
not play for the entire second half. Philip Rivers
went 14-for-21 with 142 yards and a touchdown
pass while Darren Sproles carried the ball 25
times for 122 yards with two scores for the Chargers,
who have won six straight against Detroit. It
was the most points San Diego scored in a game
since a 54-point effort on December 8, 1985.
It was a tough day for Jon Kitna as he went 26-for-46
with 302 yards and two touchdowns, but was picked
off five times for the Lions (6-8), who have
dropped six straight games and are now virtually
eliminated from playoff contention. Calvin Johnson
had five catches for 102 yards.
Final Score: Washington 22, NY Giants 10
East Rutherford, NJ (My Sportsbook) - Clinton
Portis rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown and
Shaun Suisham kicked three field goals in blustery
winds as the Washington Redskins defeated the
New York Giants, 22-10. The Giants and 'Skins
were among several teams affected by a storm
that brought snow, swirling winds, freezing temperatures
and sheer misery to the Northeast on Sunday.
The game-time temperature was 35 degrees but
felt like single digits, while the field was
dry but had snow piled behind both end zones.
Todd Collins completed just 8-of-25 passes for
166 yards while making his first start since
December 14, 1997 with Buffalo. The 36-year-old
set an NFL record for the longest gap between
starts since the 1970 merger. Ladell Betts ran
for a score and Santana Moss had three catches
for 75 yards for Washington (7-7), which pulled
within a half-game of Minnesota for the final
NFC wild-card berth. The Vikings (7-6) play the
Chicago Bears on Monday night, before meeting
the Redskins in Minnesota next week. Eli Manning
also struggled for New York (9-5), completing
18-of-52 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown.
Brandon Jacobs ran for 130 yards, while Kevin
Boss had a pair of catches and the only touchdown
for the Giants, who have dropped three straight
at home and still need a win or a tie in their
final two games to get into the postseason. They
play next week at Buffalo, while their final
home game is against undefeated New England.
The loss was not the only bad news for New York,
which lost tight end Jeremy Shockey to a broken
left leg. Shockey was hurt on the Giants' first
possession of the second half when teammate Amani
Toomer hit the back of his leg at the end of
a running play. The team also said Shockey's
ankle was unstable and would require surgery.
Final Score: Minnesota 20, Chicago 13
Minneapolis, MN (My Sportsbook) - Adrian Peterson
ran for a pair of touchdowns as the Minnesota
Vikings overcame four turnovers, all by quarterback
Tarvaris Jackson, to defeat the Chicago Bears,
20-13, at the Metrodome. Peterson, who ran for
224 yards the first time these two teams met
this season, ended with 78 yards on 20 carries
for the Vikings (8-6), who have won five in a
row. Jackson ended 18-of-29 for 249 yards with
no touchdowns, three interceptions and one lost
fumble on a hand-off attempt to Peterson for
Minnesota, which maintained its one-game lead
over New Orleans and Washington for the final
wild card spot in the NFC and moved within a
game of the Giants for the top wild card spot
with two games to play. The Vikings host the
Redskins on Sunday. Kyle Orton, making his first
start since 2006, ended 22-of-38 for 184 yards
and one interception for the Bears (5-9), who
have lost three in row to fall out of playoff
contention. The other Adrian Peterson had 77
all-purpose yards for Chicago, which allowed
the Vikings to score the final 17 points of the
game.
