Schedule |
SUNDAY
SEPT 16TH |
TIME
(ET) |
|
Cincinnati at Cleveland |
1:00 PM |
|
Cleveland Browns Stadium (73,300) -- Cleveland, Ohio
If familiarity
breeds contempt, there should be
animosity aplenty on Sunday when
the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland
Browns meet at Cleveland Browns Stadium.
Oddsmakers currently have the Bengals listed as 7-point favorites versus the
Browns, while the game's total is sitting at 41. You can guarantee "Ocho Cinco" will
reach the end zone again on Sunday versus a Browns squad that gave up almost
400 yards of offense in Week 1. The only way Cleveland has a chance to win
is if one of the Bengals' big three goes down or if Anderson plays out of character
and scorches a tough Cincy defense through the air.
Start'em:
Palmer, R.Johnson, C. Johnson, Houshmandzadeh,
Winslow
Sit'em:
Anderson, Lewis, Edwards, DST Browns
|
Buffalo at Pittsburgh |
1:00 PM |
|
Heinz Field (65,050) -- Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
The Steelers are riding high after
a blowout win over the Browns, while
the Bills are dealing with a tragedy
in the locker room and a last-second
loss. The fans at Heinz Field will
be treated to a game between the
Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburgh
Steelers when they take their seats
on Sunday. Oddsmakers currently have
the Steelers listed as 10-point favorites
versus the Bills, while the game's
total is sitting at 38. A majority
of the Steelers' offense deserves
a look this week, especially given
the current injury state of the Bills'
defense. Ride the hot hand of Big
Ben as well as Parker, who should
find the end zone. This probably
isn't a good week for any of your
Bills players. The Steelers should
find themselves in good field position
throughout the game and should cruise
to a victory over the weary Bills.
Start'em:
Evans, Roethlisberger, Parker, Ward,
DST Steelers
Sit'em:
DST Bills, Lynch, Reed, Holmes, Miller
|
New
Orleans at Tampa
Bay |
1:00 PM |
|
Raymond James Stadium (65,908) -- Tampa, Florida
The division rival New Orleans Saints
and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are set
to renew hostilities on Sunday when
they meet at Raymond James Stadium.
Oddsmakers currently have the Saints
listed as 4-point favorites versus
the Buccaneers, while the game's
total is sitting at 41½.
Brees owners will be expecting a
much better return on their investment
this week. Colston had had
11 catches totaling 123 yards the
last time these teams met . Tampa
Bay's best fantasy prospect for Sunday
is Galloway. Williams is a must-
sit, but Pittman should be able to
generate some points. New Orleans'
longer preparation time and superior
personnel will eventually win out
in a tight contest.
Start'em:
Brees, McAllister, Bush, Colston,
Galloway
Sit'em:
Henderson, E. Johnson, Saints DST,
Garcia, Cadillac, Pittman, Bucs DST
|
Houston at Carolina |
1:00 PM |
|
Bank of America Stadium (73,298) -- Charlotte, North Carolina
The Houston Texans and the Carolina
Panthers will both be trying to pick
up a win on Sunday when they battle
at Bank of America Stadium. Delhomme
and Schaub rewarded fantasy managers
who took a chance on them last week,
as both put up strong numbers. Neither
can necessarily be tagged as reliable
at this stage. The surest fantasy
bets on the field are the two Pro
Bowl receivers, Steve Smith and Andre
Johnson. In their home opener,
look for the Panthers to provide
a continuation of last week's all-
around effort, while Houston displays
the general inconsistency that is
a hallmark of young teams. Oddsmakers
currently have the Panthers listed
as 7-point favorites versus the Texans,
while the game's total is sitting
at 39.
Start'em:
Green, A. Johnson, S. Smith, Foster,
Panthers DST
Sit'em:
Schaub, Daniels, Texans DST, Delhomme,
Williams, Colbert
|
Atlanta at Jacksonville |
1:00 PM |
|
Jacksonville Municipal Stadium (67,164) -- Jacksonville, Florida
The fans at Jacksonville Municipal
Stadium will be treated to a game
between the Atlanta Falcons and the
Jacksonville Jaguars when they take
their seats on Sunday. Fantasy owners
were not happy with what running
backs Taylor and Jones-Drew failed
to accomplish last week. Garrard
performed well against Tennessee
and will enjoy another solid week.
Don't start running backs Dunn and
Norwood and tight end Crumpler. Neither
defense has fantasy potential. The
2007 season will be a tough one for
Atlanta, which is headed for its
first 0-2 start since the 2002 campaign.
Oddsmakers currently have the Jaguars
listed as 10½-point
favorites versus the Falcons, while
the game's total is sitting at 34½.
Start'em:
Jones-Drew, Jaguars DST
Sit'em:
Harrington, Dunn, Norwood, Crumpler,
Falcons DST, Garrard, Taylor, Wilford
|
Indianapolis at Tennessee |
1:00 PM |
|
LP Field (69,143) -- Nashville, Tennessee
The division rival
Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee
Titans are set to renew hostilities
on Sunday when they meet at LP Field. Defensively,
neither team is a gem, though they
are both improved from last season. Start
all the usual suspects in
this division rivalry. Look for Young
to create some problems, as he always
does, with big plays and improvisation.
But, when push comes to shove, it's
still Indianapolis. Oddsmakers currently
have the Colts listed as 7½-point
favorites versus the Titans, while
the game's total is sitting at 45½.
Start'em:
Manning, Addai, Harrison, Wayne,
Clark, Young
Sit'em:
Gonzalez, Colts DST, Brown, White,
Jones, Titans DST
|
San
Francisco at St.
Louis |
1:00 PM |
|
Edward Jones Dome (66,000) -- St. Louis, Missouri
The San Francisco 49ers and the
St. Louis Rams will both be trying
to pick up a win on Sunday when they
battle at Edward Jones Dome. The
49ers remain a trendy pick to win
the NFC West and make the playoffs.
For the Rams the loss of Pace will
have huge implications. Oddsmakers
currently have the Rams listed as
3-point favorites versus the 49ers,
while the game's total is sitting
at 44. Bulger and Jackson are
due for bounce- back days and are
solid plays, as are the always productive
Torry Holt and kicker Jeff Wilkins.
Gore is the only first-rate fantasy
player, with D-Jack a close 2nd,
as he's always played the Rams tough.
Start'em:
Gore, D-Jack, Davis, Bulger, Jackson,
Holt
Sit'em:
Smith, Battle, 49ers DST, Bruce,
McMichael, Rams DST
|
Green
Bay at NY
Giants |
1:00 PM |
|
Giants Stadium (80,242) -- East Rutherford, New Jersey
The Green
Bay Packers and the New York Giants
will both be gunning for a victory
on Sunday when they meet at Giants
Stadium.
The Giants come into this game banged up, and the Pack would be smart to jump
all over them. Start most of the
Packers if you got em, and as for
the Giants, well they're scary this
week. Maybe Plaxico, but that's it.
Both New York's Ward and Green Bay's
Jackson are worth starting in deep
leagues. Oddsmakers currently have
the Giants listed as 2-point favorites
versus the Packers, while the game's
total is sitting at 38. I'll take
a healthy Favre over a banged-up
Manning or FAT-ASS Lorenzen any day
of the week, and the legendary Packer
quarterback should be able to put
up some points.
Start'em:
Favre, Jackson, Driver, Packers DST,
Burress, Shockey
Sit'em:
Jones, Lee, Ward, Toomer, Giants
DST
|
Seattle at Arizona |
4:05 PM |
|
University of Phoenix Stadium (65,000) -- Glendale, Arizona
The Seattle Seahawks
will face their first divisional
test of the young season when the
three-time defending NFC West champions
head to University of Phoenix Stadium
this Sunday to take on the upstart
Arizona Cardinals. Alexander is
a must-start every week,
but he failed to
rush for 100 yards in both meetings
with Arizona last season. For the
Cardinals, look for rebound games
out of both Boldin and Fitzgerald
on Sunday and a solid fantasy day
from James. Oddsmakers currently
have the Seahawks listed as 3-point
favorites versus the Cardinals, while
the game's total is sitting at 42½.
This should be a close game so go
with the team with the better quarterback.
Hasselbeck.
Start'em:
Hasselbeck, Alexander, Branch, Leinart,
James, Boldin, Fitzgerald
Sit'em:
Engram, Pollard, Seahawks DST, Johnson,
Pope, Cardinals DST
|
Minnesota at Detroit |
4:05 PM |
|
Ford Field (64,500) -- Detroit, Michigan
The Lions will hold their 2007
home opener against the division-rival
Minnesota Vikings on Sunday when
they meet at Ford Field. Sportsbooks
currently have the Lions listed as
3½-point
favorites versus the Vikings, while
the game's total is sitting at 42½.
Roy Williams and Johnson look to
be good starts for a Lions team that
will be throwing the ball an awful
lot come Sunday. Detroit's opening
day showing made Kitna's bold prediction
of a 10-win season seem a little
less outlandish. Defense is what
wins football games, and the Vikings
have a clear edge in that category.
Start Peterson. The first-year back
will put up plenty of yards against
Detroit's porous defense.
Start'em:
Peterson, Kitna, R. Williams, Johnson
Sit'em:
Jackson, Taylor, Wade, Vikings DST,
Bell, Campbell, Lions DST
|
Dallas at Miami |
4:05 PM |
|
Dolphin Stadium (75,192) -- Miami Gardens, Florida
The Dallas Cowboys and the Miami
Dolphins play on Sunday afternoon,
when the new head coach and starting
quarterback of the Miami Dolphins
contend with the Dallas Cowboys in
the Fins' home opener. Romo, Witten,
Owens, and the two running backs
should all be fantasy starters, but
its a tough call to figure out which
RB should be in. At present The
Dolphins tend to be a different team
at home than they are on the road.
After their performance against the
Giants, most members of the Dallas
offense will merit a start in Week
2. Chambers looks like he's going
to be something of a reliable play
for Miami, but that's it. Sportsbooks
currently have the Cowboys listed
as 4-point favorites versus the Dolphins,
while the game's total is sitting
at 40½.
Start'em:
Chambers, Dolphins DST, Romo, Owens,
Witten, Cowboys DST
Sit'em:
Green, Brown, Martin, Ginn Jr, Crayton,
J. Jones
|
NY
Jets at Baltimore |
4:15 PM |
|
M&T Bank Stadium (70,107) -- Baltimore, Maryland
UGH. This could be ugly as the
New York Jets and the Baltimore Ravens
will both be gunning for a victory
on Sunday when they meet at M & T
Bank Stadium. A healthy Pennington
against a replacement Boller might
tilt the scales toward New York.
But I think McNair will go. Neither
team is known for its offense, though
McGahee's resume' of effort against
Gang Green could be a worthwhile
reason to give him a start. Sportsbooks
currently have the Ravens listed
as 10-point favorites versus the
Jets, while the game's total is sitting
at 33. So having said that expect
the Ravens to keep this a low scoring
affair and come out on top.
Start'em:
McGahee, Heap, Ravens DST
Sit'em:
Clemons, Jones, Coles, Jets DST,
McNair, Clayton, Mason
|
Oakland at Denver |
4:15 PM |
|
INVESCO Field at Mile High (76,125) -- Denver, Colorado
Divisional bragging rights and Daunte
Culpepper is expected to be under
center when the Raiders visit the
Denver Broncos in a Week 2 showdown
between bitter AFC West rivals from
Invesco Field at Mile High. Sportsbooks
currently have the Broncos listed
as 10-point favorites versus the
Raiders, while the game's total is
sitting at 37½. This game
will be an excellent indicator of
whether Oakland has really made any
progress on offense, as the Broncos
will provide a far sterner challenge
than Detroit. Henry owners have
to be pleased. Look for Walker's
numbers to take a dip this week,
and start the Broncos D. For the
Raiders, bench em all. The Oakland
Raiders haven't
won on the road in almost two years.
Start'em:
Cutler, Henry, Walker, Broncos DST
Sit'em:
Culpepper, Jordan, Curry, Porter,
Raiders DST, Marshall, Stokley
|
Kansas
City at Chicago |
4:15 PM |
|
Soldier Field (61,500) -- Chicago, Illinois
The Kansas City Chiefs and the Chicago
Bears will both be trying to pick
up a win on Sunday when they battle
at Soldier Field. The Bears and
Chiefs were two of four NFL teams
that failed to find the end zone
last week, hopefully the trend doesn't
continue. Sportsbooks currently have
the Bears listed as 13-point favorites
versus the Chiefs, while the game's
total is sitting at 34½. So
can we expect a little scoring? Probably!
But only by the hometown Bears.
The Chiefs haven't shown any offensive
signs of life since the start of
training camp, and playing the defensively
stout Bears is not a good thing.
The Chiefs defense was average at
best against Houston. Grossman's
top targets were wideout Bernard
Berrian (5 receptions, 83 yards)
and tight end Desmond Clark, play
em again. Oh and start the Bears
D. Duh!
Start'em:
Larry Johnson, Benson, Berrian, Bears
DST
Sit'em:
Huard, Bowe, Parker, Chiefs DST,
Grossman, Muhammed

San
Diego at New
England |
8:15 PM |
|
Gillette Stadium (68,756) -- Foxborough, Massachusetts
The San Diego
Chargers and the New England Patriots
will both be trying to pick up a
win on Sunday when they battle at
Gillette Stadium. It's the battle
of Two popular picks to represent
the AFC in Super Bowl XLII. The sportsbooks
currently have the Patriots
listed as 4-point favorites versus
the Chargers, while the game's total
is sitting at 46½. Moss reverted
to a form the world hadn't seen since
he was a member of the Vikings, ride
the wave. It's tough to go wrong
starting Moss, Brady, or even Welker.
For San Diego, there's no one in
the world resting Tomlinson or Gates.
Many will give the Patriots the advantage
in this matchup of talented teams,
I don't. The Chargers win this battle,
with guys like Philip Rivers and
kicker Nate Kaeding getting you some
fantasy points too.
Start'em:
LT, Gates, Chargers DST, Brady, Maroney,
Moss, Patriots DST
Sit'em:
Jackson, Davis, Welker, Stallworth,
Watson

Washington at Philadelphia |
8:30 PM |
Lincoln Financial Field (68,400) -- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The Washington Redskins and the
Philadelphia Eagles will both be
gunning for a victory on Monday when
they meet at Lincoln Financial Field.
McNabb will be playing his first
meaningful game at Lincoln Financial
Field since last Nov. 19th, when
he tore his right ACL. Last week
the Eagles lost to an inferior Packers
team based mainly on special teams
gaffes, and this week the Redskins
will be attempting to build on last
week's 16-13 overtime win over the
Dolphins. Sportsbooks currently have
the Eagles listed as 7-point favorites
versus the Redskins, while the game's
total is sitting at 39. McNabb should
get better from Week 1 to Week 2,
and is worth starting. Elsewhere
for the Eagles, Westbrook always
puts up numbers. Washington has little
to recommend besides perhaps Portis
and maybe tight end
Chris Cooley.
Start'em:
Portis, McNabb, Westbrook
Sit'em:
Campbell, Betts, Cooley, Skins DST,
Brown, Curtis, Eagles DST
