NEW YORK –- (PRESS
RELEASE) -- Seattle
Seahawks’ Shaun Alexander, last season’s
MVP, is the early favorite to capture the NFL’s
regular season rushing title, with 7-2 odds from
Sportsbook.com. The world’s largest online
sportsbook and casino continues to offer an array
of props for the upcoming NFL season including
highest totals for passing, rushing and receiving
yards.
In ‘05, Alexander rushed
for a whopping 1,880 yards in addition to racking
up 27 rushing scores, setting the NFL record for
touchdowns in a single season. Closing in on Alexander
is Chiefs’ sensational running back Larry
Johnson, with 4-1 odds. Johnson rushed for 642
yards over the final four games of the ‘05
regular season, averaging an astonishing160.5
yards per game. Closing out the top three is Giants’
running back Tiki Barber, with odds of 6-1. Barber
gained 1,860 yards on the ground last season,
averaging 116.3 yards per game.
Colts’ QB Peyton Manning
is the early favorite to pass for the most yards
during the regular season, with 9-2 odds. Last
season, Manning threw for 3,747 yards and 27 touchdowns.
Two-time Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady is next with
5-1 odds. Brady led the league in passing in ‘05
with 4,110 yards and 26 touchdowns. Kurt Warner
(8-1), Trent Green (8-1), Carson Palmer (10-1)
and Matt Hasselbeck (10-1), round out the top
six.
The battle to lead the league
in receiving yards is decidedly more difficult
to call, with Sportsbook.com odds makers currently
listing four players as the early favorites. Chad
Johnson, Randy Moss, Steve Smith and Larry Fitzgerald
are all listed at 7-1 odds. Close behind are Anquan
Boldin and Terrell Owens, each with 8-1 odds.
Panthers’ wideout Steve Smith was the league
leader last season, piling up 1,563 receiving
yards and 12 touchdowns.
Sportsbook.com is also offering
over/under odds on the highest and lowest win
totals for the NFL’s ’06 regular season.
The over/under for the most regular season wins
is 13.5, while the over/under for the fewest regular
season wins is 3.5.
“Everybody bets on
the NFL and has an opinion on who will be the
top performers of this season,” said Alex
Czajkowski, Sportsbook.com. “There are definitely
some interesting races to watch. Manning versus
Brady, Alexander versus Johnson, Smith versus
Moss – it’s anyone’s guess which
players will reign supreme in the stats column.”
