Cal trounced Oregon State. Am I the only one who
is marking my calendar for the November 18th game
against USC? The Golden Bears have been a must-play
since crapping the bed against Tennessee to open
the season and have not looked back since. Nate
Longshore averaged 11 yards an attempt, while
throwing four scores against a Beaver team that
clearly was overmatched. The nine-point
line didn’t do California any justice. The
Golden Bears are listed as early six-point favorites
for this Saturday’s home game against Oregon,
and they are a must play until further notice.
It is safe
to say...
Larry Coker’s tenure at Miami is ticking
away oh so quickly. Despite being 17- point home
favorites against Houston, the Hurricanes needed
a third-quarter touchdown to secure a come-from-behind,
14-13 win. What has happened? After being a long-time
‘Canes fan, I have turned my Sebastian sweatshirt
in for some Scarlet Knights apparel to back the
man who should have succeeded Butch Davis, Greg
Schiano.
The same can be said for John L. Smith at Michigan
State. After doing everything they can to hand
Notre Dame a win,

how did the Spartans
respond? Exactly the same as last year, when after
pulling defeats out of the jaws of victory against
Michigan and Ohio State, MSU was trounced, 49-14,
at home by
Northwestern. It wasn’t quite as bad this
season, but State lost, 23-20, to lowly Illinois
despite being a near four-touchdown favorite.
Boise State is highly
underrated. Listed as the 22nd team in the nation
going into Saturday, the Broncos were still four-point
dogs in Utah. After a 36-3 outright victory, perhaps
the bookmakers will give Boise some credit. The
polls still have not, as the Broncos only moved
up two spots to No. 20. Teams
listed between 15-25 are continually not getting
the credit they deserve when it comes time to
making the lines.
On a side note, kudos to the Rice football team,
which responded to the death of freshman cornerback
Dale Lloyd to whip Army on the road, 48-14.
Things to look forward to...
The already-mentioned Oregon-Cal game should be
a high-scoring affair, but I am sticking with
the Bears. However, the game I am most looking
forward to is LSU at Florida. The Gators are two-point
home dogs, but that might be too much credit.
Look for the LSU defense to contain Chris Leak
and pull out an easy
road victory.
