Night Football - Monday, November 20th
by: VIP.com
The
New York Giants suffered a disappointing loss
to the Chicago Bears in Week 10. The Jacksonville
Jaguars suffered an embarrassing loss to the Houston
Texans in Week 10. Now both of those teams will
be looking to get back on the right track when
they meet at Jacksonville's ALLTEL Stadium for
this week's Monday Night Football contest.
The Giants were trying to
move into a tie with the Bears for the top mark
in the NFC by beating their rival at home last
weekend. However, despite leading that game 13-10
at halftime New York still found themselves on
the losing end of a 38-20 final score. Chicago
managed to score four touchdowns over the final
two quarters to grab the win.
Eli Manning turned in a terrible
performance against Chicago's tough defense, completing
just 14-of-32 pass attempts for 121 yards, with
no touchdowns and two interceptions. Tiki Barber
picked up 141 rushing yards on 19 carries for
the Giants (with one 46-yard dash), while Brandon
Jacobs ran for just nine yards, but had two scores.
The Jaguars were huge favorites
at home against the Texans on the weekend, but
Houston jumped out to an early 10-0 lead and held
on for a 13-10 victory. David Garrard completed
just 15-of-34 pass attempts for 214 yards in the
loss for Jacksonville, with no touchdowns and
four troublesome interceptions. Maurice Jones-Drew
ran for the Jags' only major score in the fourth
quarter, while Josh Scobee booted a FG in the
second.
As a result Jacksonville
is now just 5-4 on the season, and they're four
games back of the Indianapolis Colts for top spot
in the AFC South. Against-the-spread the Jags
are 5-4 in their nine games, while they're 4-1
ATS at home, and 2-3 ATS as the favored team.
Totals bettors have watched Jacksonville go 4-5
on the OVER/UNDER this year.
The Giants are one game better
than the Jaguars at 6-3 straight-up, but they're
also 5-4 against-the-spread this season. New York
is 3-1 ATS as the road team, and 3-2 ATS as the
underdog. As for OVER/UNDER, the Giants have also
been involved in four OVER plays and five UNDER
results this season, making both teams a mixed
bag for totals.
Oddsmakers opened the Jaguars
as 3-point home favorites in this contest, but
that line had increased to Jacksonville -3.5 (and
Jacksonville -4 at some books) by the end of the
week. The game's posted total has increased from
38 to 38.5 (or 39) over the week.
The Jaguars and the Giants
have battled on the gridiron just three times
over the past 10 years. New York pulled out a
24-17 victory in their last meeting, at Giants
Stadium back in November 2002. The Giants were
listed as 3-points home favorites in that game,
and covered the spread, while the combined score
was an OVER result. Overall, New York is 2-1 lifetime
against Jacksonville (but just 1-2 ATS) with three
OVER plays.
On the injury front, Jaguars
starting quarterback Byron Leftwich won't play
again this week (he could be out for the season),
so the team is hoping that Garrard can improve
on his performance against the Texans. For the
Giants, DL Michael Strahan is on the injury report
as OUT this week but there's a chance he could
be back for the next game.
