5) New Orleans (+3) at NY Giants
This is a battle of two teams
coming off disappointing losses. New Orleans (9-5)
had a letdown last Sunday, losing at home to an
inferior Washington team. Now, the Saints travel
to a hostile environment and must summon the courage
they showed in a blowout win at Dallas two weeks
ago. New York (7-7) has been besieged with injuries
this year, but it was costly turnovers that led
to their 36-22 home loss to Philadelphia.
Sloppy play is usually not
the hallmark of a Tom Coughlin coached team. The
Giants still control their own destiny in winning
an NFC Wild Card spot, but they must win their
two remaining games. Week
16 NFL Point Spread Saints +3
4) New England (+2.5) at Jacksonville
Jacksonville’s (8-6) head
is spinning after last week’s loss at Tennessee.
The Jaguars out-gained the Titans 396-98 in total
yardage, but Tennessee scored three defensive
touchdowns. Everyone knows that Jacksonville is
not a great road team at 2-5, but that is a game
they let slip away.
Besides needing a win to
help their Wild Card chances, this is also a revenge
game for Jacksonville. New England (10-4) embarrassed
Jacksonville, 28-3 in the playoffs last year,
and the Jaguars have marked this game on their
schedule all year. The Patriots need a win to
secure the AFC East title, but this is a very
tough game, and it is not surprising they are
the slight underdog. Week
16 NFL Point Spread Patriots +2.5
3) Philadelphia (+7) at Dallas
This is one of two Monday
games on Christmas, and it gets underway at 5:00
p.m. EST. The nightcap is the New York Jets (+2.5)
at Miami. Critics of the NFL say there should
not be any games on the holiday, just like the
college bowls, but the NFL is just giving fans
what they want, more and more football.
This game also has huge playoff
ramifications. It is hard to believe, but Philadelphia
(8-6) will win the NFC East if they beat Dallas,
and then Atlanta in their finale. Dallas (9-5)
will wrap up the division with a win, and hope
to overtake New Orleans for the second seed in
the NFC. Week
16 NFL Point Spread Eagles +7
2) San Diego (-4) at Seattle
San Diego (12-2) is the favorite
to win the Super Bowl (11:4), and who can blame
the odds-makers when LaDainian Tomlinson is scoring
touchdowns at a record pace. “Martyball”
has also taken a hiatus as the Chargers can score
on anyone, and they are far from the conservative
group that Marty Schottenheimer normally coaches.
Seattle (8-6) will have had
10 days between games as they played against San
Francisco last Thursday. Seattle can find themselves
out of the playoffs if they lose to San Diego,
and at Tampa Bay next week. That would be a tragic
ending for last year’s Super Bowl runner-up.
Week 16 NFL Point
Spread Chargers -4
1) Cincinnati (+3) at Denver
Cincinnati (8-6) is in a
four way tie for two AFC Wild Card spots. The
Bengals may be the best team of the four, but
they do have two tough games remaining with Pittsburgh
on the docket next week. One added note, with
the eight players arrested on their team this
year, Cincinnati could qualify for most prison
league championships.
Denver (8-6) saved
its season with a win at Arizona last week. Maybe
more importantly, rookie Jay Cutler showed he
is a legitimate NFL quarterback by having a big
performance. The winner of this game has a great
chance to make the post-season, and you can be
sure that the television ratings will be high
for this one across the country.
Week 16 NFL Point Spread Bengals +3
