NFL
Early Odds - December 12, 2006

5) NY Jets (+3) at Minnesota
This game gets a slight edge
over Pittsburgh (N/L) at Carolina and Jacksonville
(-3.5) at Tennessee because both the Jets and
Vikings are alive for the playoffs. New York (7-6)
badly hurt their post-season chances last week
with a home loss to Buffalo, but they have played
well on the road this year at 4-2.
Minnesota (6-7) had
lost five of six games heading to Detroit last
week. Maybe the Vikings were embarrassed that
they were an underdog against the awful Lions,
but they woke up with a 30-20 win. Now, they are
looking for consecutive wins for the first time
in almost two months. Week
15 NFL Point Spread Jets +3
4) Kansas City (+8.5) at San
Diego
Kansas City (7-6) is on the
outside looking in at the playoffs right now,
and heading to San Diego is like putting your
head on a chopping block. The Chiefs would not
be in this predicament if it wasn’t for
back-to-back losses to Cleveland and Baltimore,
and now their run oriented attack goes against
a very good Chargers’ run defense.
San Diego (11-2) is
universally considered the best team in the NFL.
They have won seven straight games and LaDainian
Tomlinson is scoring touchdowns at a record pace.
The fact that this spread is so high is a reflection
that the Chargers are 6-0 at home, and they are
the league’s highest scoring team.
Week 15 NFL Point
Spread Chiefs +8.5
3) Philadelphia (+5.5) at NY
Giants
Two 7-6 teams that looked
comatose a few weeks ago are right in the NFC
playoff chase. New York’s win at Carolina
last Sunday was their first victory in five games,
but it doesn’t seem like it. Perhaps it
is because we see this team getting healthier,
and they have as much talent as any team in the
NFC.
Philadelphia has done
a great job keeping themselves relevant after
losing Donovan McNabb. They were able to squeak
by Washington last week due to Redskin’
turnovers and other miscues, but this is a far
tougher test. The inner of this game will be in
very good shape to make the playoffs. Week
15 NFL Point Spread Eagles +5.5
2) Dallas (-3.5) at Atlanta
This is a rare Saturday night
game and will be broadcast by the NFL Network.
Dallas (8-5) had their four game winning streak
come to a crashing halt last Sunday night versus
New Orleans. Not only did the Saints win 42-17
and knock the Cowboys out of the second seed in
the NFC, they made quarterback Tony Romo look
human.
Atlanta is 7-6 and fighting
for a playoff spot after road wins over Washington
and Tampa Bay. Both of those games were comeback
wins, and the Falcons must play far better against
Dallas due to the offensive firepower of this
Cowboys’ squad. Fortunately, the home crowd
will be fired up for this night contest.
Week 15 NFL Point Spread Cowboys -3.5
1) Cincinnati (+3) at Indianapolis
Cincinnati (8-5) has won
four straight games, which is tied with Tennessee
for the second best streak in the NFL (San Diego
has won seven straight). The Bengals’ hot
play means they would be in the playoffs if the
season ended today, but a win is still badly needed
as they head out to Denver next week.
The Colts’ (10-3)
fans are really angry after their 44-17 loss at
Jacksonville. The Jaguars’ run game made
the Indianapolis defense look downright silly,
and nobody is sure if Indy could stop Pamela Anderson
running between the tackles right now. The Colts
need to rebound here at home as even a playoff
berth is not a lock yet. Week
15 NFL Point Spread Bengals +3.5
