Early Odds - December 05, 2006 by: VIP.com 5) NY Giants (+3) at Carolina What do you get when you
match-up two mediocre teams from the NFC? A potential
playoff preview. Even though Carolina and the
Giants are 6-6, both of these squads can very
easily make the post-season. That is great evidence
that parity in the NFL has never been greater. The Panthers are coming
off a loss at Philadelphia, while the Giants have
lost four straight games after a 23-20 defeat
to Dallas. Despite the Giants’ woes, they
actually feel good about themselves just for playing
Dallas tough. That shows just how far this team
has fallen over the last month. Week
14 NFL Point Spread Giants +3 4) Denver (+7.5) at San Diego Denver (7-5) lost to Seattle
on Sunday night, and will sink or swim with rookie
quarterback Jay Cutler. Cutler had a “deer
in the headlights” look against the Seahawks,
and it is not likely to get better in a hostile
environment. To add injury to insult, linebacker
Al Wilson has a sprained neck and his status is
up in the air. San Diego (10-2) is
considered the best team in the NFL right now,
even ahead of Indianapolis. Running back, LaDainian
Tomlinson can not be contained, and the passing
game and defense are also formidable. A win by
the Chargers not only helps their playoff positioning,
it could help knock Denver out of the playoffs.
                                Week 14 NFL Point
Spread Broncos +7.5 3) Baltimore (+3) at Kansas
                                City Baltimore (9-3) still has
a two-game lead over Cincinnati in the AFC North
even after losing to the Bengals last Thursday
night. The Ravens’ defense is now number
one in the NFL (ahead of Chicago), but the offense
is still lagging behind. If Baltimore can win
this game, they have a great chance of finishing
the year at 13-3. Kansas City (7-5) did
something last week that a playoff team can not
afford to do, lose to an inferior opponent. The
Cleveland Browns are a pesky team, but they were
still 3-8 heading into their 31-28 win over Kansas
City. The good news for the Chiefs is they are
14-2 straight up in their last 16 games at Arrowhead
                                Stadium. Week
14 NFL Point Spread Ravens +3 2) Indianapolis (-1.5) at Jacksonville Indianapolis (10-2) is tied
with San Diego for the best record in the AFC
and three games up over Jacksonville in the AFC
South. The Colts need to keep on winning as they
know home field advantage means a much better
chance of making it to the Super Bowl (although
it didn’t help them last year). Jacksonville (7-5) got a
crucial road win at Miami last week, but they
are still fighting with four other teams for two
AFC Wild Card spots. The Jaguars are 5-1 at home
this year after going 6-2 there last year. One
of those home losses in 2005 was a 26-18 defeat
                                versus Indianapolis.
Week 14 NFL Point Spread Colts -1.5 1) New Orleans (+6.5) at Dallas New Orleans is 8-4 and has
a two game lead over Carolina and Atlanta in the
NFC South division. Despite their accomplishments,
many experts are not sold on this team. A win
on Sunday night would certainly change that perception,
and they will have a better chance if receiver
Marques Colston comes back as expected from his
ankle injury. Everyone in the City
of Dallas is in love with quarterback Tony Romo,
except former starter Drew Bledsoe. After taking
control of the NFC East division with a win at
the Giants last week, the Cowboys (8-4) are now
5-1 in the Romo era. Dallas is also shooting for
a first round bye in the playoffs, and this is
a must-win in that regard. Week
