BCS Title Odds - November 14, 2006
VIP.com
Odds to win the BCS Championship
are in parenthesis.
Before we get into the squads
remaining, it is useful to review the teams that
went by the wayside.
West Virginia (8-1) lost
at Louisville on November 2nd and has fallen from
3rd to 8th in the BCS Standings. Louisville (8-1)
then moved into the 3rd spot in the BCS, but their
loss at Rutgers last Thursday night has dropped
them to 10th.
The third spot in the BCS
Standings is so critical because the top two teams,
Michigan and Ohio State, play each other this
Saturday.
Ohio State, 11-0 (10:11)
Ohio State is coming off
a 54-10 win at Northwestern. That has silenced
the critics who wondered why the Buckeyes only
beat Illinois, 17-10 the week earlier. As mentioned,
Ohio State plays Michigan this Saturday in Columbus.
It is a match-up made in college football heaven,
and it harkens back to the days of coaches Woody
Hayes and Bo Schembechler.
Michigan, 11-0 (4:1)
The big question that is
on everyone’s mind is whether the loser
of the Michigan and Ohio State game can stay at
second in the BCS standings. That would set up
a rematch in the BCS championship game. The answer
to that question is that it is very unlikely,
and you have to assume that the loser is out of
the title chase.
Florida, 9-1 (6:1)
Florida is ranked 4th in
the BCS Standings. The entire Gators community
is breathing a big sigh of relief after Florida’s
fortunate, 17-16 win over South Carolina. A loss
would have knocked them out of championship contention,
and it would have been at the hands of their former
coach and nemesis, Steve Spurrier.
Florida’s next two
games are home to Division 1-AA Western Carolina,
and at a struggling Florida State squad. The Gators
will then meet a very underrated Arkansas team
in the SEC championship game in Atlanta.
Notre Dame, 9-1 (12:1)
Notre Dame is ranked 5th
in the BCS Standings. You have to give credit
to Notre Dame and Coach Charlie Weis. They are
still alive for a national championship game even
after a blowout loss at home to Michigan, and
close wins against UCLA and Michigan State.
Notre Dame has an easy home
game against Army this week, and then a great
match-up against USC in So-Cal.
The Field (5:1)
The Field category has gotten
very crowded in the last couple of weeks which
is why the odds are down to 5:1.
It starts with USC who climbed
to 3rd in the BCS Standings after being 7th last
week. The Trojans leapfrogged Louisville, Texas
and Auburn who all lost last week, as well as
Florida. That was a surprise since the Gators
beat South Carolina.
USC
(8-1) still has tough games remaining with
California, Notre Dame and UCLA. The first two
of those are home games.
Two other teams of note in
this category are undefeated Rutgers (9-0), and
Arkansas (9-1). They are ranked 6th and 7th in
the BCS Standings respectively, and both need
a lot of help to get into the national title game.
The way the favorites have been falling though,
don’t count either team out.
