Corner went 2-1 in college selections last week,
but unfortunately that was offset by a 1-2 mark
in NFL games. The year-to-date record is 11-15.
College picks this week start with tonight’s
biggie of Louisville at Rutgers. Editor’s Note: The
selections in this column are purely the opinion
of the writer, and are not being endorsed by any
parties. Louisville (-6.5) at Rutgers Louisville is 8-0 and ranked
third in the country. They are coming off an impressive
44-34 home win over a hobbled West Virginia team,
but they are just 3-7 against the spread (ATS)
in their last 10 road games. The Cardinals are second
in the nation in total yards per game (502), 299
in the air and 203 on the ground. Rutgers is also 8-0, and
they are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine games. However,
this is their first ranked opponent this year,
and they may be a little rusty having not played
since beating Connecticut, 24-13 on October 29th. Rutgers’ defense ranks
6th in total yards allowed at 228 yards per game.
They are 10th in pass defense at 135 yards per
game, and 22nd in run defense at 92 yards per
game. The big question is whether
this stout Rutgers defense can contain the highflying
Cardinals. On the other side, Louisville’s
run defense is going to have their hands full
with Heisman Trophy candidate, Ray Rice. Rice
suffered an ankle injury and was limited to 79
rushing yards last week, but he is expected to
                                play. If Louisville stuffs the
line of scrimmage with their safety, the Rutgers
passing attack is going to have to step up and
avoid turnovers. Summary and Outlook Louisville is coming off
an emotional win, but they have their sights set
on the Big East title and a national title shot.
That being said, consistent defense will keep
Rutgers in the game, and the home field advantage
may just be enough for a straight up win in this
“Clash of the Titans”. Pick: Rutgers Bonus Free Pick: Miami (+3)
at Maryland If you said before the start
of the season that Maryland would be favored in
this game, you would have been thrown in a straight
                                jacket. However, the Terrapins are
stepping up week after week, and are one of the
ACC surprise teams at 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the
conference. This Maryland team isn’t a fluke,
and they are tied with Wake Forest atop the ACC
Atlantic division. Miami (5-4, 2-3 ACC) is 1-6-1
ATS, and has played three bad games in a row.
The Hurricanes barley beat unbelievably bad Duke,
and lost to both Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech. With all that recent history,
Miami still goes on the road as a meager three
point underdog. The way I see it, Maryland can
score at will, while Miami will really struggle
putting up points. This is going to be another
well deserved win for Maryland as they take it
to this emotionally damaged Miami team. Pick: Maryland P.S.
Maryland games are 5-3 in the Over/ Under while
Miami games are just 1-7. For all College Football
