                               By Michael Robinson: In this
wacky and wild NFL season, it was only fitting
that the playoff picture would not be determined
until around 8:00 p.m. EST on Sunday. Denver looked
like a lock for the post-season heading into their
San Francisco game, but lost 26-23. The Broncos shocking defeat
means that Kansas City sneaks into the 6th seed
in the AFC. The Chiefs beat Jacksonville 35-30
at home yesterday, and they will now play at third
seeded Indianapolis next week. The Colts survived
a close game versus the Dolphins, 27-22. The other first round match-up
in the AFC will be the 5th seeded Jets at 4th
seeded New England. These AFC East rivals met
twice during the regular season with each team
winning on the road. The last game was a 17-14
Jets win in Foxboro which really hurt the Patriots
chances of getting a bye. Get ready for all the talk
about Bill Belichick going against his former
                                protégé, Eric Mangini. The relationship
between the two men is strained at this point,
and these franchises do not like each other much
anyways. The top seed in the AFC goes
to San Diego. The Chargers beat Arizona, 27-20
after leading the game 27-7 late in the 3rd quarter.
Baltimore is the second seed after beating Buffalo,
19-7. It was a remarkable turnaround for the Ravens
as they went from 6-10 last season to 13-3 this
year. The NFC conference was not
as exciting on Sunday, or the whole season for
that matter. The New York Giants 34-28 win over
Washington on Saturday night basically assured
them of getting the 6th seed. The Giants will play at a
very hot Philadelphia team who beat Atlanta, 24-17
for their fifth straight win. The Eagles won the NFC East
title before the Atlanta game started thanks to
the tremendous choke by Dallas. The Cowboys lost
to Detroit at home, 39-31. Dallas will now play on the
road at Seattle as the 5th seed. The 4th seeded
Seahawks broke their three game losing streak
with a 23-7 win over lowly Tampa Bay, but Seattle
is just happy to be going into the playoffs on
a winning note. The NFC’s Chicago Bears
and New Orleans Saints had already wrapped up
the top two seeds respectively before Sunday’s
games. They will each enjoy their bye-week. Finally, the biggest loser
of the day was the Detroit Lions. Their win over
Dallas means they get the number two pick in the
NFL draft with Oakland in the top spot. Sometimes
you just have to take one for the franchise and
lose a game here or there, but the Lions coaching
staff would obviously never think that way. Overall for the week, the
favorites were 8-8. Posted by miker at December
