Those two streaks stayed
intact with Dallas (8-4) winning an exciting game
in the Meadowlands, 23-20. The Giants are now
6-6, but in the very weak NFC, that still puts
them firmly in the playoff hunt.
Chicago (10-2) kept their
stranglehold on the top of the NFC with a 23-13
win over Minnesota (5-7). Despite the victory,
there could be a quarterback controversy brewing
as Rex Grossman threw for just 34 yards and three
interceptions.
Seattle (8-4) upset the Broncos
in Denver, 23-20. Broncos rookie, Jay Cutler had
a mediocre debut at best, while veteran Matt Hasselbeck
was not much better. This game swung on turnovers
in the fourth quarter, and now Denver must figure
out how to stay in the playoff chase at 7-5.
New Orleans is tied with
Seattle and Dallas for the second best record
in the conference at 8-4. The Saints took care
of business at home against a very unpredictable
49ers (5-7) team, 34-10.
The upset of the day was
Indianapolis (10-2) losing 20-17 to Tennessee
(5-7). The Colts looked like a lock for home field
advantage throughout the AFC playoffs, but they
have lost two out of three games. The Titans are
very hot right now, winners of three straight.
San Diego (10-2) is now tied
with Indianapolis for the best record in the AFC.
The Chargers beat an underrated Bills (5-7) team,
24-21 in Buffalo.
LaDainian Tomlinson had 178
yards rushing for the victors.
New England (9-3) survived
Detroit (2-10) in a game that never should have
been that close. The final score was 28-21, but
Detroit led 21-13 in the 4th quarter before killing
themselves with turnovers.
Jacksonville improved to
7-5 and 2-4 on the road with a 24-10 win at Miami.
The Dolphins are now 5-7 and their playoff hopes
are over, as is their four game winning streak.
In Cleveland, the Browns
(4-8) pulled off an upset at home by beating Kansas
City, 31-28 in overtime. The loss dropped the
Chiefs to 7-5 and puts them in a five way tie
with the Jets, Jaguars, Broncos, and Bengals for
the AFC Wild Card spots.
Overall, the favorites were
7-8 heading into tonight’s Carolina (-3)
and Philadelphia game.
