XL Lines: Bet Now: Seattle Seahawks 13:5
Seattle’s 20-10 win over
Washington last week was their first playoff
win since 1984. They were 0-6 in the post-season
before breaking the drought.
Running back, Shaun Alexander
suffered a concussion last week, but he is supposed
to be ready to play in the Carolina game. Quarterback,
Matt Hasselbeck did a great job guiding the
offense without Alexander in the game, but they
can not win a Super Bowl if he is not healthy.
Coach Mike Holmgren may have
won only one playoff game in seven years as
the Seattle head coach, but he is a playoff
veteran. Holmgren won a Super Bowl in the 1996
season with the Green Bay Packers and Brett
Favre. The Packers returned to the Super Bowl
the next year, but were upset by the Denver
Broncos and coach Mike Shanahan.
There are a lot of people who
would love to see a Denver and Seattle Super
Bowl, and watch another battle between those
same head coaches.
Superbowl
XL Lines: Bet Now: Carolina Panthers 4:1
Carolina is the biggest underdog
of the four teams remaining, which is a little
surprising considering how well this team is
playing now. The Panthers rolled up 434 yards
of total offense on the vaunted Chicago defense,
and they are playing inspired football on both
sides of the ball.
Don’t forget that this
team also has playoff experience from two years
ago. Not only did Carolina win at Philadelphia
in the NFC championship game, but they also
gave New England everything they could handle
in a 32-29 Super Bowl loss.
Quarterback Jake Delhomme is
now 5-1 all-time in the playoffs, and he is
the only quarterback among Matt Hasselbeck,
Jake Plummer and Ben Roethlisberger that has
Super Bowl experience. That goes a long way
when looking at Carolina’s Super Bowl
chances.
In the AFC column, I commented
how coach Mike Shanahan is the best offensive
mind left in the playoffs. Carolina coach John
Fox is the best defensive mind remaining, and
that includes Pittsburgh’s Bill Cowher.
