NFL
Week 15 Picks - December 13, 2006
by: VIP.com
By Jeff Wilson: Week
15 has four selections, plus another two that
just missed the cut. There is a Thursday, Saturday,
Sunday, and Monday night game this week. It looks
like the NFL is going for world domination, or
at least total network domination.
Editor’s Note: The
selections in this column are purely the opinion
of the writer, and are not being endorsed by any
parties.
Games Considered But Not Picked
Miami (+1) at Buffalo:
Considered picking Buffalo:
Miami is 6-7 and coming off a big win at home
over New England. Running back Sammy Morris had
a good game with 123 yards, and he will be asked
to do it again with Ronnie Brown still out. If
the running game falters, Joey Harrington will
need to have two good games in a row, always a
risky proposition.
Buffalo (6-7) got a good
road win against the Jets last week, but they
were also fortunate in the turnover department.
The Bills have not been great at home this year
(3-3), but anytime you play in December in Buffalo
versus a warm weather team, the home field advantage
gets bigger.
Denver (-2.5) at Arizona:
Considered picking Denver:
Denver (7-6) seems like a strange favorite pick
as they have lost four games in a row, and two
straight since rookie, Jay Cutler took over at
quarterback. Arizona (4-9) has an impressive rookie
quarterback in Matt Leinart, and the team has
won three of their last four games, including
at home over Seattle last week.
Denver is favored because
the coaching match-up of Mike Shanahan versus
Dennis Green is heavily slanted in the Broncos’
favor. Denver needs this game to remain in the
playoff hunt, and I think Shanahan figures out
a way to get it done, even on the road with his
inexperienced quarterback.
Week 15 Selections
Dallas (-3) at Atlanta:
Atlanta (7-6) has won two
straight games over Washington and Tampa Bay,
but they didn’t play real great in either
of them. The Falcons are also hurting big-time
at running back as Warrick Dunn and Jerious Norwood
are both questionable at best to play in this
game. Michael Vick is a great runner, but he can’t
do it all himself.
Dallas (8-5) is coming off
an embarrassing home loss to New Orleans. You
can be sure that Coach Bill Parcells gave the
entire team an earful, except for maybe the very
sensitive Terrell Owens. Now, the Cowboys have
to rebound in a tough spot on the road during
a night game, but they will get it done.
NFL Free Expert Pick:
Dallas
NY Jets (+3) at Minnesota:
Minnesota (6-7) stayed alive
for an NFC Wild Card spot after beating Detroit,
30-20. Even after that win, I am surprised they
are a three point favorite after being an underdog
against the lowly Lions. Brad Johnson and the
offense are not going to put up a lot of points
in this game even if Chester Taylor is able to
go.
The Jets are 7-6 after laying
an egg against Buffalo. While it was a devastating
loss, they are still just one game behind Cincinnati
and Jacksonville for the Wild Card lead. New York
is 4-2 on the road this year, and have won their
last two at New England and Green Bay. I’ll
take the points.
NFL Free Expert Pick:
NY Jets
Jacksonville (-3.5) at Tennessee:
Jacksonville (8-5) has looked
very good in their last two games against Miami
and Indianapolis. Those wins have been fueled
by a running game that is now second in the NFL.
Still, the Jaguars’ road record is just
2-4, and they have not proved they can consistently
win on the road.
Tennessee (6-7) is on fire
right now having won four straight games, and
they have covered the spread in eight of their
last nine games. The only one they didn’t
was a 37-7 blowout loss at Jacksonville. The Titans
have a little extra motivation because of that
game, and I say they keep this game very close.
NFL Free Expert Pick:
Tennessee
Philadelphia (+5.5) at NY Giants:
Philadelphia has won two
straight games with quarterback Jeff Garcia at
the helm. Those were home to Carolina and at Washington.
The Redskins game is a little misleading as the
Eagles got killed in total yardage and gave up
over 200 yards on the ground. They also lost the
time of possession battle 37:46 to 22:14.
The Giants (7-6) are a dangerous
team coming off their win at Carolina last week.
New York should be able to run the ball effectively
with Tiki Barber, and they don’t have to
worry about wearing him out since he is retiring.
Eli Manning has five touchdowns versus no picks
in the last two weeks, a great sign for Sunday.
NFL Free Expert Pick:
NY Giants
