Brett Wetterich outlasted the 50/1
Trevor Immelman ton win the Byron Nelson Championship
on Sunday by one stroke. Wetterich was part of our
field price of +150, which considering it contains
usually about 80-100 players, is normally good value.
People seem to like to bet the bigger prices though
with the field always a good winner for us.
The US Open is only now a month away and the world
will be watching how determined Tiger Woods is to
win this event since the death of his father. Tiger
is priced at 5/1 which is one his best prices in recent
times, but I have a feeling that he will be very focused
and trying to win this event for his father.
Apart from the golf this week, I can’t really
say we had too many other winning sports as our customers
seemed to be ‘tuned in’ and betting winners
with regularity.
In a surprising twist this past week, we were swamped
with media phone calls and emails about two of our
‘Prop’ bets that we offered. The first
was our ‘Hurricane Prop’ which included
either yes or no of a category 3, 4 or 5 hurricane
to hit the USA mainland. Yes at -500 was immediately
bet down to -550 with approx $20,000 in action. It
really is surprising the action some of these ‘prop’
bets generate and especially how many new and different
customers we find. The other even bigger ‘Prop’
bet we offered which seemed to have every media outlet
in the USA calling was the ‘Da Vinci Code’.
With all the press the ‘Da Vinci Code’
has and the fact that it touches so deeply into the
Religious community, we decided to offer a proposition
on how much money the new film will generate on its
opening weekend, Friday 19th, Saturday 20th and Sunday
21st of May. We also offered a proposition of how
well the film will go against the figures of ‘The
Passion’ because of its religious nature. I
can honestly say that I didn’t expect the reaction
to be so big from either the media or our customers.
So far we have already received nearly $100,000 in
bets!
Baseball and NHL this week was definitely a week
for our players. I could report many of our players
that had huge weeks playing baseball alone, from one
player who won $500,000 to many who won over $100,000.
For every bad sport, thankfully there is a good one,
and NBA was that. While the results weren’t
the best to start the week, NBA returned a good result
for us over the week.
Stay tuned for the Soccer World Cup as it starts
on June 9th, and with the event being in Europe, I
expect the money wagered to be by far the biggest
event ever bet on.
