Poolside
Rants
So what? We (The Cowboys) dominated
that game. Sometimes the best team doesn’t
win in sports. Excuses are over the game was
not as close as it ended up but the adrenaline
rush and trash talking in the stands is worth
more than an non-divisional win anyway. It was
a good game and I have to give credit to the
‘Hawks for showing some of that fortitude
they, well let’s be honest they never
showed that fortitude before. Maybe this team
is learning how to win those big games and not
fold under the pressure. Time will tell but
it was a good win…end.
Holt and Harrison lead
the pack in my opinion when you get to the job
of catching the ball and helping their teams
win. They are clutch in a possession role and
deliver big plays on a game-to-game basis. It
doesn’t hurt that they are the consummate
professional when it come to saying the right
thing and understanding what team sports are
all about. I can’t say enough about these
two guys and how much I admire them as players.
There are three guys that I want to rant on
about next and it could get ugly because they
are volatile and unpredictable. Of course you
all know, the next three are the top three in
most people’s lists at this point and
they all top their own list of all-time great
receivers in the NFL.
Let’s start with
the good, move to the bad and get right down
to the ugly. The good in this case is none other
than everyone’s favorite Bengals superstar
Chad Johnson. “Who covered 85 in 2005?”
is the chart he has up in his locker and I ask,
how funny is that? He is the river-dancing,
Pepto sending wideout who comes up with his
own nickname of 7-11 because he’s “open
all night long”. Love him or hate him
the guy has charisma, he oozes charisma. He
talks smack but isn’t over the top insulting
or demeaning to his opponents, he simply has
a confidence in his abilities and is extremely
creative in demonstrating that to the media
and fans, as well as his opponents. I liked
this guy before this season but I have followed
him a bit closer and he is the real deal. If
more pro athletes had a sense of humor and the
good-nature of this guy we would never go to
the movies, believe that. The guy is an intense
competitor as was evidenced by his breakdown
on an ESPN interview after the Bengals first
loss. In the macho world of professional football
this guy cared so much about the game and his
team and how people would view them losing a
game he lost control of his emotions…that’s
real. Chad you have my respect and you are a
terrific receiver with enough heart and intensity
to help any team win. You are my first pick
for WR when I get an NFL franchise.

The bad plays for the
baddest team in football after a blockbuster
deal last summer saw him don the Silver &
Black of Raider Nation. Bad is no reflection
of the Freak’s talent and don’t
mistake me here I want to be clear. Randy Moss
is the most talented football player in the
NFL, he is unstoppable and un-scheme-able. He
is the most disruptive force in pads on Sunday
whether he is 80% or just doesn’t feel
like playing or whatever, when he puts pads
on the defensive game plan is a whole new plan
to try and prevent his game changing big play
ability. And it still doesn’t work, if
this guy was on my team a full 50% of my plays
would be getting him the ball, he is THAT good.
His laissez-faire attitude prevents him from
being the greatest athlete to play in the NFL,
ever. I mean in a league known to have the stiffest
drug testing regimens for professional leagues
he comes out on a National interview and admits
to smoking reefer/weed/ganja “during”
the season. You could have just volunteered
to be tested every week! Not very bright but
I can respect his ‘keeping it real’
attitude and not being afraid of telling it
like it is and not being ashamed of who he is.
Individuality aside you are a superstar the
kids idolize, man, you have got to take better
care of your mouth and try to at least exude
some professionalism and common sense. Making
headlines is what he does but it is never a
good thing and it’s a shame…but
it gets worse when we move to the ugly.
UGLY=TO, Terrell Owens.
He is quite possibly the cause of all human
cancer. Studies should be performed on the man
in the name of science to discover how cancer
begins and how we might stop it. You have all
heard the stories and know his antics, does
anyone think for one second his ego is not the
reason this man does anything? As much as Chad’s
taunts are good-natured and in fun, TO has no
such creativity always choosing to display his
ego in the most vulgar, over-the-top, demeaning
manner he could possibly derive. There is no
creativity, it is a spiteful act designed only
to draw attention to the show-stopper none other
than himself. He has no idea of a team concept
and is everything that is wrong with pro athletes
in stereotypical fashion. All ego and money,
everything and everyone else takes a back-seat
or is dragged behind the bumper to his immense
love of himself. I am not going to go so far
as the psycho-analyze the guy but how dumb is
a guy who plays a team sport for likely 25 years
and still doesn’t get the concept of “team”.
The guy is a good receiver and he makes great
plays but you couldn’t pay me enough to
take this guy…even in a fantasy draft.
Winning is not that important to me. Did I just
say that? Winning is everything to me and yet
where TO is concerned not important enough to
take him and his ego. Bashes his teammates and
all for money and attention…that is the
ugly in all humanity and it gets prime time
coverage thanks to our buddy TO.
That rant drained me.
I am surprised that I am not even having a “pop”
right now or hanging with Randy trying to calm
myself down but not even TO could make me curse
on paper. Some days I am that good I amaze even
myself, I suppose I just am not ready for the
world to know it yet…all that pressure.
I am going to change the timing of the rants
and take advantage of the “juiced up”
state I am in Sunday and Monday after the games
so you will have all week to check it out and
it will give me more ammo to fire out the rant.
That’s it for this week, you got my takes
on the skill positions that matter to fantasy
geek and get the glory and the girls over the
past few weeks and now the rants get random.
Until I next impart my knowledge to you, have
a good one y’all and I am back to the
