Week 3 Sunday Look Back
The underdogs did well in
Week 3, highlighted by the emotional win Monday
night by the Saints. Cleveland came close to a
major upset, while Denver and Cincinnati won big
games a road dogs. Here's a look at what transpired
in the Week 3 of the NFL.
Week 3 Result - Miami
13 Tennesee 10
Yeesh, this one was ugly
all the way through. Neither of these two clubs
looks to be remotely decent right now. Miami is
pitiful on offense and the grumblings are starting
to mount about Ronnie Brown. Daunte Culpepper
is the key and so far the key is not working.
Week 3 Result - Indianapolis
21 Jacksonville 14
You knew this was going to
be close and low scoring. But did you really think
the Jags had a chance to win? I did. Jacksonville
blew this one with sloppy offensive play in the
second half and bad kicking. Too bad. It would
have been a fantastic win.
Week 3 Result - Washington
31 Houston 15
Now, was Mark Brunell that
good or were the Texans that bad? I am leaning
towards the latter. This win accomplishes nothing
other than to give the Redskins their first win
of the season. Bettors should not jump on the
Washington bandwagon just yet.
Week 3 Result - Green
Bay 31 Detroit 24
I am a firm believer in the
notion that Kevin Jones is holding back the Lions.
He is not a reliable threat in the backfield and
the coaching staff has got to start looking elsewhere
for a ground game. Meanwhile, Brett Favre proved
he still has something left in that rusty tank.
Week 3 Result - NY Jets
28 Buffalo 20
The surprising Jets continue
their strong play. Maybe Chad Pennington really
is the savior in NYC. Buffalo is such a scrappy
team that you were pulling for them to at least
tie this one up and make it exciting- that is
unless you had the Jets and the points.
Week 3 Result - Carolina
26 Tampa Bay 24
Talk about two teams' fortunes
going in opposite directions. Carolina can now
focus on getting their house in order and making
a run, while the Bucs are spinning out of control.
We wish young Simms the best in his recovery.
Week 3 Result - Cincinnati
28 Pittsburgh 20
Memo to Steelers fans: Relax,
everything will be ok. Your team will turn it
around and rattle off a few wins in a row after
the bye week. As for the Bengals? Color us impressed.
Week 3 Result - Chicago
19 Vikings 16
The road favorite won but
did not cover here. We were wowed by Grossman
in the fourth quarter but we were cursing him
in the third. Minnesota could be better than I
initially thought, but I just don't see Brad Johnson
and Chester Taylor being that great.
Week 3 Result - Baltimore
15 Cleveland 14
Now that's how you win ugly!
Can someone tell me when Jamal Lewis will get
on track? He has got to be a concern right now
for the Ravens. And can someone tell me why the
Browns think Charlie Frye is their future?
Week 3 Result - Seattle
42 NY Giants 30
Seattle piled up the yards
but lost Shaun Alexander in the process. No matter,
Maurice Morris will be very good as a starter.
Conversely, what the heck happened to the Giants?
How do you go down 35-0?
Week 3 Result - Philadelphia
38 San Francisco 24
It was closer than the score
indicated, but a win's a win if you're an Eagle.
McNabb and the offense are fine, but can the defense
keep playing well without Kearse? Alex Smith is
impressing. Too bad he doesn't have much defense.
Week 3 Result - St. Louis
16 Arizona 14
Edgerrin James and the Cards
blew this one. Arizona has underachieved greatly,
while the Rams have done enough to stay in games
and capitalize when possible. Neither team will
be playoff bound.
Week 3 Result - Denver
17 New England 7
The defense continues to
get it done for coach Shanahan. Plummer was better
but not nearly good enough for contending. As
for Brady? He may have found a receiver in Doug
Gabriel. But they have to get back to establishing
the run.
Week 3 Result - New Orleans
23 Atlanta 3
Riding a wave of emotion
carried the Saints at home- that and tremendous
special teams. We go back and forth on the merits
and talents of Michael Vick. He's the perfect
CFL QB, but in the NFL?
