Fans of the Houston Texans
will have to steel themselves for another riveting
season of spectacular losses punctuated at regular
intervals by the sight of David Carr decorating
the grass in that famous pancake pose he has
mastered during his tenure at the helm of this
team.
Not until Week 10, when they get the Bills at
home, will the Texans run into a team that could
match their own ineptitude. That’s bad,
folks! After that, they get to play the Jets
and the Raiders- but both of those are on the
road. They won’t stand another chance
until the last week of the season when they
get the Browns back in Houston.
I am of the mind that winning five games this
season will be a stretch, albeit an achievable
one. The season total sits at 5.5 games, however,
so I have no trouble disagreeing with the ever-hopeful
public, who have taken the over in droves and
given me a sweet deal, paying just +115 for
my under wager.
I was all ready to give the Titans seven wins
this year. Gracious of me, I know. Then I remembered
how they jettisoned McNair and set Billy Volek
up to lose his job to Vince Young, if not this
year, next for sure.
The X-factor here
is how Volek responds. He could pull a Drew
Brees and make the next 2 Pro-Bowls before cashing
in on the free agency market or he could fold
under the knowledge that he has no job security.
I think this kid has great things in store.
Luckily for me, my choice to take the over this
season was made so much easier by the bookmakers,
who have set the total at only 5 wins for 2006!
That’s less than the Texans! I don’t
know what kind of mushrooms go into an oddsmaker's
salad but I want second helpings.
Again, I agree with the public on this one and
I’ll buy the over at -125 all day and
still think I am getting a deal!
