REPORT DATES:
Rookies July 27th, Veterans July 27th
SITE: Disney's
Wide World of Sports Complex, Lake Buena Vista, FL
CAMP OBJECTIVES:
All eyes will be on Chris Simms, who takes over full-time
starting duties at the quarterback position after
the organization released Brian Griese in the offseason.
Simms needs to build a better rapport with his receivers,
as Joey Galloway was the team's only reliable target
in 2005. Third-year pro Michael Clayton needs to get
off to a quick start in camp in order to rebound from
a disappointing sophomore season. The Bucs made major
additions to their offensive line, bringing in guards
Toniu Fonoti (Vikings) and Davin Joseph (Oklahoma)
along with tackles Torrin Tucker (Cowboys) and Jeremy
Trueblood (Boston College), and Jon Gruden will have
to gauge how ready those reinforcements are to contribute
in '06. Apart from the addition of linebacker Jamie
Winborn (Jaguars) and defection of former Super Bowl
hero and safety Dexter Jackson (Bengals), Monte Kiffin's
proven defensive unit will more or less maintain the
status quo heading into camp.
