    REPORT DATES:
Rookies July 26th, Veterans July 26th SITE: Olivet
Nazarene University, Bourbonnais, IL CAMP OBJECTIVES:
The million-dollar question is how the Bears will
handle fragile quarterback Rex Grossman during the
preseason. Noting his injury history, will they limit
him, or noting his inexperience, will they push him?
Expect it to be the former, and expect newly-acquired
backup Brian Griese (Buccaneers) and starter-turned-third-stringer
Kyle Orton to garner a great deal of reps. Another
major issue involves the running game, as two-year
starter Thomas Jones comes off his best season as
a pro but Cedric Benson wasn't drafted No. 4 overall
in 2005 to be a backup. Look for Benson to begin carrying
a great deal of the offensive load. The NFL's top
scoring defense of a year ago has undergone some changes
within the secondary, as one-time starters Jerry Azumah
(retired) and Mike Green (Seahawks) have both departed
and new faces like ex-Panthers Ricky Manning and Dante
Wesley are trying to earn jobs along with second-round
draft choice Danieal Manning (Abilene Christian).
In addition to fine-tuning his defense, Lovie Smith
will also pay major attention to the special teams,
after drafting excellent college return men in Danieal
Manning and Devin Hester (Miami (FL))) back in April.
