5) Dallas (-3) at Washington
If you simply go by the record
of these teams, this game is not worthy of Top
5 consideration. However, it makes the list because
this is always an intense match-up, and the fact
that the Cowboys are always interesting to follow
because of the team drama.
Dallas (4-3) got a much needed
win last week at Carolina with Tony Romo at the
helm. The team exploded for 25 unanswered points
in the fourth quarter for a 35-14 win. The Redskins
are 2-5 and coming off a bye-week. No word yet
on whether quarterback Mark Brunell will be replaced
by Jason Campbell. Week
9 NFL Point Spread Dallas -3
4) Cincinnati (+3) at Baltimore
Cincinnati is 4-3 on the
year after a 29-27 loss to Atlanta. That record
is a disappointment for a team that has Super
Bowl aspirations. The Bengals still have the necessary
talent, but are desperate to put together a game
in which both sides of the ball play their best.
Baltimore is 5-2 on
the year after a 35-22 win over New Orleans. It
was a great effort from the Ravens who handed
the Saints their first home loss of the year.
The game also marked the first play-calling effort
this year by head coach Brian Billick. If Sunday’s
game was any indication, more good things are
to come for their formerly stagnant offense.
Week 9 NFL Point Spread
Cincinnati +3
3) Kansas City (+2.5) at St.
Louis
This is the battle of Missouri,
and each team has the same record at 4-3. Unfortunately
for the Chiefs, a 4-3 mark means third place in
the tough AFC West division behind Denver and
San Diego. St. Louis is in a tie for first place
in the NFC West with a Seattle squad playing without
quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck.
Each of these teams
has a new head coach in Herm Edwards and Scott
Linehan. Edwards has his team playing conservative,
yet solid, football even with quarterback Trent
Green being sidelined. They are 4-2 with back-up
Damon Huard, and a win over their in-state rivals
would get the rest of the Chiefs’ fans back
on the bandwagon. Week
9 NFL Point Spread KC +2.5
2) Denver (+3) at Pittsburgh
Denver is 5-2 after a 34-31
home loss to the Colts. The defeat did more than
add a notch to their loss column, it bruised the
ego of the entire defense.
The Denver defense had only
given up two touchdowns all year, but Indy had
three touchdowns and over 400 yards of total offense.
Pittsburgh is 2-5 after a
stunning loss at Oakland, and the playoff hopes
are shrinking for the defending champions. Quarterback,
Ben Roethlisberger continues his season long struggle,
as he added four more interceptions on Sunday.
Home field may be a remedy for their troubles,
but will it be the cure?
Week 9 NFL Point Spread Denver +3
1) Indianapolis (+2.5) at New
England
If it seems like these two
teams play each other every year, it is only because
they do. This is the sixth meeting in the last
four years, and most believe that number seven
will be coming in this year’s playoffs.
The Patriots had won four straight in this rivalry
until the Colts won 40-21 last year in New England.
Indianapolis is 7-0
and coming off a tremendous win at Denver. It
is the second year in a row that they started
off the season at 7-0. The Colts deficiency at
stopping the run is the Patriots (6-1) strength,
but the way the Colts are throwing the ball, none
of that might matter on Sunday night.
Week 9 NFL Point Spread Indy +2.5
