 5) Arizona (+7) at Seattle Odds Get out your calculators
everyone, as this is expected to be a high scoring
contest. The Cardinals put up 34 points against
the 49ers last week in a win, but their defense
surrendered 27. Arizona will find matching points
against the defending NFC champions a risky proposition,
especially on the road. Seattle is also 1-0, but
they got their win in a low-scoring, 9-6 affair
at Detroit. The Lions’ defense played much
better than expected, and there is no way that
Seattle is kept out of the end-zone in this game.
This is a great early test to see if Arizona has
what it takes to compete in the NFC West. Week
2 NFL Point Spread Cardinals (+7) 4) Tampa Bay (+5.5) at Atlanta
Odds It is time to “man-up”
for Tampa Bay and their quarterback, Chris Simms.
A 27-0 home loss (to Baltimore) is tough for any
fan base to accept, and Simms already has a reputation
for not playing well in big games. This is a big
game already in Week Two, as they do not want
to start off the year at 0-2. As poorly as Tampa
Bay played last week, that is how good Atlanta
was in their 20-6 win at Carolina. Atlanta did
get a break when receiver Steve Smith couldn’t
go, but it was their run defense against DeShaun
Foster that set the tone. Quarterback, Michael
Vick was also very efficient, and his speed helps
negate a fast Tampa Bay defense.
Week 2 NFL Point Spread Bucs (+5.5) 3) NY Giants (+3) at Philadelphia
Odds The Giants may have the toughest
early schedule in the NFL with Indianapolis at
home, and Philly and then Seattle on the road.
The Colts game already went into the loss column
at 26-21, and that makes this game even more important.
The Giants beat Philadelphia two times last year,
but it won’t be so easy this time around. Philadelphia has a
chip on their shoulder after being rated last
in the NFC East by most pre-season publications.
An impressive 24-10 win over Houston is a very
good start, but it was Houston after all. The
Eagles must stay patient with their running game
this week, and continue to stay with it even if
the Giants stop them early. Week
2 NFL Point Spread Giants (+3) 2) Washington (NL) at Dallas
Odds Washington is 0-1 after a
19-16 home loss to Minnesota on Monday Night Football.
The Redskins were let down by an offense that
had struggled all pre-season, and there is no
indication that they will turn it around anytime
soon. Now, the Redskins have a very tough road
test on a Sunday Night game. You hate to say that
any game is a must win so early in the season,
but Dallas needs this one. Their loss last week
at Jacksonville makes an 0-2 start a dangerous
reality. Quarterback, Drew Bledsoe is on the hot
seat already, but he is going to get another start.
However, Bledsoe may be on a short leash in this
game with Tony Romo ready to go. Week
2 NFL Point Spread (No Line Yet) 1) Pittsburgh (Even) at Jacksonville
                                Odds Jacksonville is 1-0 after
beating the Cowboys, 24-17 last week. Quarterback,
Byron Leftwich played very well in that game,
but the Steelers’ defense is a big step
up over the Cowboys. The Jaguars are going to
need a big game out of running back, Fred Taylor
to keep the Steelers’ “D” from
                                blitzing relentlessly. Pittsburgh (1-0) was
able to beat the Dolphins at home last week even
with Charlie Batch at quarterback. Now, Ben Roethlisberger
is questionable to be back in the line-up after
rupturing his appendix. This would be the first
regular season appearance for “Big Ben”
since he rearranged his face in a motorcycle accident.
That in itself makes this game an attraction.
