5) NY Jets (+10.5) at New England
These two teams are atop
the AFC East division. The Jets (4-4) have overachieved
under first year coach, Eric Mangini. The Patriots
are a healthy 6-2, but that record is a disappointment
to them after losing at home to arch-rivals, Denver
and Indianapolis.
There are many good
story lines in this game. Mangini was the long-time
loyal confidant of Patriots coach Bill Belichick.
The Boston and New York rivalry is always on display
in this match-up even if it is not as intense
as the Yankees and Red Sox. These two teams met
earlier in New York with New England winning,
24-17. Week
10 NFL Point Spread NY Jets +10.5
4) St. Louis (+4) at Seattle
This game looked a lot more
exciting when both teams were 4-1, but each has
struggled since. Seattle’s (5-3) problems
are directly linked to the absence of quarterback
Matt Hasselbeck and running back Shaun Alexander.
Alexander should be ready to play in this game,
while Hasselbeck is still on the mend.
St. Louis (4-4) has
lost three straight including a 30-28 home loss
to Seattle. Still, these are the top two teams
in the NFC West and one (or both) is going to
end up in the playoffs. That is what happens when
you have lightweights like San Francisco and Arizona
in your division. Week
10 NFL Point Spread St. Louis +4
3) New Orleans (+4) at Pittsburgh
It is very interesting that
a 6-2 New Orleans team is a four point underdog
to a 2-6 Pittsburgh squad. That shows that the
public is not entirely convinced by the Saints’
hot start, and that Pittsburgh is a lot better
than their record indicates.
Pittsburgh is not only the
defending world champions, but they may be the
best 2-6 team in the history of the NFL. The Steelers
dominated Denver in every category last week except
turnovers and the scoreboard. This game is a great
barometer for New Orleans, as well as a season-savor
for the Steelers. Week
10 NFL Point Spread New Orleans +4
2) San Diego (-1) at Cincinnati
San Diego is 6-2 on the year,
but just 2-2 on the road. Those two losses were
by three points each, following a trend from last
year that saw the Chargers lose five games by
four points or less. The Chargers have another
tough test next week in Denver, so they can not
afford to get complacent in this game.
Cincinnati
is 4-4 on the year after losing four of their
last five games. The Bengals schedule has been
brutal with one playoff contender after another,
and that continues against San Diego this week.
Cincinnati’s turnaround needs to happen
physically and mentally, as their players have
started to lose their composure.
Week 10 NFL Point Spread San Diego -1
1) Chicago (+2.5) at NY Giants
This is the first “flex”
game of the season which means it switches over
to the Sunday night game on NBC. That doesn’t
make the executives of the Fox network very happy,
who see the best two teams in their conference
taken away from their afternoon programming.
Chicago (7-1) is coming
off a blowout home loss to Miami, while the Giants
(6-2) barely squeaked by Houston at home. This
game could ultimately determine home field advantage
throughout the NFC playoffs, so expect a post-season
atmosphere, much like New England and Indianapolis
last week.
Week 10 NFL Point Spread Chicago +2.5
