5) Baltimore (+3) at Tampa Bay
odds
Ravens’ fans are anxious
to see quarterback Steve McNair play his first
regular season game in a Baltimore uniform. It
is the job of the very average Ravens’ offensive
line to keep McNair upright and healthy all season.
All eyes with also be on
Tampa Bay quarterback, Chris Simms. Simms enters
his first season as the undisputed starter, and
he needs to step up his play to ensure this is
a playoff team. Tampa was 6-2 at home last season.
Week 1 NFL Point
Spread Ravens (+3)
4) Atlanta (+6) at Carolina odds
This is a tough first test
for the Atlanta Falcons. Quarterback, Michael
Vick is still learning the West Coast offense,
and he does not figure to have a lot of time in
the pocket this week. If Atlanta is to win, it
might have to be on the legs of Vick.
The Panthers are a legitimate
Super Bowl contender and the favorites (9:2) to
win the NFC along with Seattle and Dallas. Atlanta
has had problems with their run defense, so expect
a heavy load from Carolina running back, DeShaun
Foster. Week 1 NFL
Point Spread Falcons (+6)
3) Cincinnati (+2.5) at Kansas
City odds
The big question everyone
wants to know about this game is the status of
quarterback, Carson Palmer. Palmer played in the
last two pre-season games, and he looked good,
with no apparent after-effects for his knee.
Kansas City is one of the
toughest road venues in the NFL, as evidenced
by the Chiefs 7-1 mark at home last year. They
will try to establish the running game with Larry
Johnson, but heavy turnover on the offensive line
makes that more difficult. Week
1 NFL Point Spread Bengals (+2.5)
2) Dallas (+2.5) at Jacksonville
odds
Dallas is always an interesting
team to watch because of the presence of Coach
Bill Parcells. Now with the Terrell Owens saga,
it automatically switches to “must-see tv.”
Owens will play this week, after missing most
of the pre-season with a hamstring injury.
Jacksonville very quietly
went 12-4 last year, and they are one of the toughest
teams at home, 6-2 in 2005. They did lose receiver
Jimmy Smith from an offense that already wasn’t
very explosive, and this is a tough first test
for them, even in Jacksonville. Week
1 NFL Point Spread Cowboys (+2.5)
1) Indianapolis (+3) at NY Giants
odds
This game is otherwise dubbed
as the “Battle of the Mannings” as
it pits Indianapolis’ Peyton versus the
Giants’ Eli. The Manning brothers are used
to competing in the backyard during basketball
and wiffle ball games, but not on the gridiron.
This game is the first Sunday
Night game televised by NBC Sports. It is also
the first chance to see the Indianapolis offense
without Edgerrin James, and whether their passing
attack starts to suffer when defenses do not respect
the running game as much. Colts’ kicker
Adam Vinatieri is questionable with a foot injury.
Week 1 NFL Point
Spread Colts (+3)
