PLAYERS TO START - WEEK 5 CHEATSHEETS Brett
Favre, QB, Green Bay
Favre has started to embrace
Green Bay’s West Coast offense, settling
for quick passes and underneath routes instead
of always forcing it down the field. It has also
kept his interceptions down to a reasonable level.
Favre struggled some last week at Philadelphia,
but he will find the terrain much easier at home
this week versus St. Louis.
LaMont Jordan, RB, Oakland
Jordan ran for just 55 yards
total in his first two games of the year against
San Diego and Baltimore. Those are two great defenses.
Last week, Jordan broke out for 128 yards versus
the Browns. Expect more of the same this week
against San Francisco in what should be a high
scoring game.
Amani Toomer, WR, NY
Giants
The Giants have a home game
against Washington, and the Redskins pass defense
has not been good as of late. Toomer already has
three touchdown receptions this year, and quarterback
Eli Manning is looking his way with more frequency
than ever before.
Eric Johnson, TE, San
Francisco
Johnson is the starting
tight end for the 49ers with rookie Vernon Davis
injured. Two weeks ago, Johnson had 87 yards receiving
and a touchdown at home against Philadelphia.
Last week, it was just 14 yards at Kansas City.
San Francisco is back home against Oakland and
the Raiders’ secondary is banged up. Start
Johnson.
Players to Bench - Week 5 CHEATSHEETS
Players to Bench
Brad Johnson, QB, Minnesota
It would be tempting to start
Johnson this week against Detroit, the 30th ranked
pass defense in the NFL. However, look for running
back Chester Taylor to be featured more this week,
and for the Minnesota offensive game plan to be
conservative in nature.
Corey Dillon, RB, New
England
Dillon had a pretty strong
game last week at Cincinnati, but this week, he
will be going against a Miami run defense that
always seems to play the Patriots tough, even
in New England. Dillon is also sharing carries
with rookie Laurence Maroney, and Maroney may
start to be featured more.
Derrick Mason, WR, Baltimore
Mason has only one game this
year of more than 50 receiving yards. That was
against Cleveland in Week 3 when he went for 132.
Still, he has no touchdowns on the year, and he
has a tough match-up this week with Champ Bailey
and the Denver defense on Monday Night Football.
Jason Witten, TE, Dallas
Witten is one of the
most talented tight ends in the NFL. He proved
that the last two years by averaging 868 yards
and six touchdowns. This year, his numbers are
down, and quarterback Drew Bledsoe will be concentrating
on getting the ball to receivers, Terrell Owens
and Terry Glenn against Philly.
