In New England, turnovers
were a big part of the story, but this time they
favored the Colts. Tom Brady had four interceptions,
and Corey Dillon fumbled once as Indianapolis
won the turnover battle, 5-1. Peyton Manning completely
outplayed his counterpart with 326 yards passing,
two touchdowns, and just one pick.
In Chicago, the Bears came
into their game as almost a two touchdown favorite
against the Dolphins. However, Chicago turned
the ball over six times versus Miami’s two,
and you are not going to win many NFL games being
that careless, no matter how good you are.
Another surprising upset
was Atlanta going down at Detroit, 30-14. The
Falcons were 5-2 heading into that game, and Detroit
was just 1-6, but it certainly did not matter.
Quarterback, Michael Vick came back to Earth throwing
for just 163 yards and two interceptions. Detroit’s
Jon Kitna was the passing star with 321 yards
through the air.
The New York Giants almost
joined the upset category, but they were able
to hold off Houston, 14-10. The Giants will certainly
take the win, but it was not the effort expected
from a 13 point favorite.
San Diego also had a lot
more trouble from Cleveland than expected. This
was a two point game in the 4th quarter before
San Diego scored two touchdowns to put it away.
Cleveland answered with a
late TD of their own for the cover, but San Diego
won the game, 32-25.
In Washington, Dallas came
into town fresh off their exciting Sunday night
win over Carolina. Dallas quarterback, Tony Romo
had a solid game for the second week in a row,
but it wasn’t enough in the end, thanks
partially to a sure touchdown drop by Terrell
Owens.
Despite Owens’ gaffe,
Dallas kicker, Mike Vanderjagt had a chance to
win the game before his 35 yard kick was blocked
with just six seconds left. Washington then kicked
the game-winner after a return, and a 15 yard
facemask penalty. The final score was 22-19 Washington.
Finally, in Pittsburgh, the
Steelers out-gained the Broncos 499-336 in total
yards, but they still lost the game, 31-20. Pittsburgh
was again the victim of turnovers, with three
more interceptions from Ben Roethlisberger and
six turnovers overall.
Pittsburgh’s playoff
chances are really in jeopardy at 2-6, although
you can never count out the defending Super Bowl
champions.
