NFL
week 7 Picks Recap - October 23, 2006
by: VIP.com
The first loss of the week
was Philadelphia giving five points at Tampa Bay,
and losing 23-21. The key statistic of this game
was Philadelphia with four turnovers and Tampa
with none. When that happens on the road, you
have almost no chance of covering a five point
spread.
The Eagles did almost pull
it out late after taking a 21-20 lead late. However,
Buccaneers rookie quarterback, Bruce Gradkowski
was able to get the team into field goal range,
and Matt Bryant nailed a 62 yarder for the win.
It was the third longest field goal in NFL history
and Tampa Bay had the improbable win.
The second loss of the week
was Pittsburgh giving 2.5 points at Atlanta, and
losing 41-38. Let me first say that you have to
give some major credit to Atlanta quarterback,
Michael Vick, Vick threw four touchdowns, and
had one of the best games of his career after
struggling most of the season.
Pittsburgh quarterback, Ben
Roethlisberger also had a great day with 238 passing
yards and three touchdowns. “Big Ben”
did get injured in the third quarter with the
Steelers winning 24-21, and he was replaced by
Charlie Batch the rest of the way. The game came
down to overtime, and whoever got the first score
was going to get the cover as well.
The win of the week was Carolina
getting 3.5 points from Cincinnati and losing
17-14. The Panthers led most of the way early
on, up 7-0 after one, 14-7 at the half, and 17-10
at the end of three quarters.
Cincinnati then got on the
board in the fourth quarter on a Carson Palmer
one yard touchdown pass.
Carolina had a chance to
take back the lead, but Jake Delhomme was intercepted
in the Bengals end-zone with just under four minutes
remaining. That was disappointing for Panthers’
fans, but they still got the cover.
The last remaining game is
Dallas giving three points at home to the NY Giants.
The big advantage here besides the home field
advantage on MNF, is the Dallas passing offense
versus the Giants pass defense.
New York is going to have
trouble matching up with Terry Glenn and Terrell
Owens on the outside, as well as tight end Jason
Witten. Of course, if Drew Bledsoe is not given
the proper protection from his offensive line,
then this match-up will be for naught. Bledsoe
also needs to stay away from the costly interception
for which he is prone to do.
