The other marquee match-up
of the day was San Diego at Denver. Both teams
were 7-2 heading into the game, with the winner
taking temporary control of the AFC West division.
This was a tremendous game all-around with the
Chargers rallying from a 24-7 deficit to win 35-27.
New England (7-3) rebounded
from two straight home losses with a huge win
at Green Bay (4-6). The final score was 35-0 and
it was as close to total domination as you can
get. The Patriots improved their road record to
5-0, while Green Bay is just happy that Brett
Favre’s injured elbow does not appear to
be too serious.
Philadelphia quarterback,
Donovan McNabb was not as fortunate in the injury
department. McNabb is out for the season after
tearing his ACL. To add insult to injury, the
Eagles (5-5) lost 31-13 to lowly Tennessee (3-7),
and their playoff hopes are in major jeopardy.
Backup, Jeff Garcia likely takes over the reigns,
and the only good news is that his nemesis, Terrell
Owens is no longer with the team.
In Miami, the Dolphins continue
their hot play with a 24-20 win over Minnesota.
Miami (4-6) now has a three game winning streak,
while Minnesota (4-6) has lost four straight.
Like the Dolphins, Pittsburgh
(4-6) needed a win to keep their playoff hopes
alive, and they got one in Cleveland, 24-20. Quarterback,
Ben Roethlisberger had another exciting day with
three interceptions, but he did throw a four yard
pass to Willie Parker for the winning touchdown.
It was a crushing loss for
the 3-7 Browns who let this game slip through
their fingers.
Cincinnati (5-5) is another
team that got a must win, 31-16 at New Orleans
(6-4). The Saints' Drew Brees threw for a whopping
510 yards, but his three interceptions were too
much to overcome. Chad Johnson had 190 yards receiving
and three touchdowns for the Bengals, but his
most important stat was no wacky end-zone celebrations.
The Saints defeat means that
two of the division leaders in the NFC (Seattle
and New Orleans) lost. The NFC East leader, New
York Giants (6-3), will try to do better tonight
as a four point underdog over the AFC’s
Jacksonville Jaguars (5-4).
Overall for the week, the
favorites went 6-6-2 heading into tonight’s
game.
