Brad Childress –
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings are 5:2 to
win the NFC North, 15:1 to win the conference,
40:1 to win the Super Bowl, and have an Over
/ Under win total of 8 games.
The 50 year-old Childress
is getting his first job as an NFL head coach
after a long successful stint as Philadelphia’s
offensive coordinator. Childress inherits a
good amount of talent of both sides of the ball,
and the team is in a relatively weak division.
An NFC North championship is not out of the
question in his first year at the helm.
Mike McCarthy –
Green Bay Packers
Green Bay is 9:1 to win
the NFC North, 40:1 to win the conference, 50:1
to win the Super Bowl, and has an Over / Under
win total of 6 games.
McCarthy is another guy
making his head coaching debut. He was Green
Bay’s quarterback coach in 1999 before
offensive coordinator stints with New Orleans
and San Francisco. Now, he reunites with Brett
Favre and will try to rebuild an offense that
lost its best receiver in Javon Walker. The
Packers’ defense does get a boost this
year with draftee, A.J. Hawk.
Rod Marinelli –
Detroit Lions
Detroit is 5:1 to win the
NFC North, 40:1 to win the conference, 40:1
to win the Super Bowl, and has an Over / Under
win total of 7 games.
Marinelli is a 56 year-old
former defensive line / assistant head coach
with Tampa. He was with the Buccaneers since
1996. Marinelli has never been a head coach
at any level, but he is a tough disciplinarian
who will get his player’s attention. Maybe
the best thing Marinelli did in the off-season
was hiring Mike Martz as his offensive coordinator.
Sean Payton –
New Orleans Saints
New Orleans is 11:2 to
win the NFC South, 20:1 to win the conference,
40:1 to win the Super Bowl, and has an Over
/ Under win total of 7 games.
Payton comes to New Orleans
after working as an offensive coordinator in
Dallas and New York. Coming to New Orleans is
a daunting task after the year they had with
Hurricane Katrina, but Payton is blessed by
having free agent Drew Brees at quarterback,
and a running back tandem of Reggie Bush and
Deuce McAllister.
Scott Linehan –
St. Louis Rams
St. Louis is 11:2 to win
the NFC West, 20:1 to win the conference, 75:1
to win the Super Bowl, and has an Over / Under
win total of 7 games.
Linehan is the 5th NFC
coach to get his first head coaching job, and
the 4th whose background is on offense. Linehan
was the o-coordinator for Miami last year, and
for Minnesota the three prior years. He inherits
a potentially very good offensive unit, but
the team’s fortune will rest with their
defensive improvement.
