NFL
Week 9 Picks - November 01, 2006
by: VIP.com
Cleveland (+12.5) at San Diego
San
Diego is a very strong 7-1 against the spread
(ATS) when playing opponents with a losing record.
Cleveland is 0-5 ATS following a straight up win.
Let’s not forget that the Browns have played
lackluster ball on the road this season.
The Chargers are for real
as they are 2nd in the NFL in rushing yards, 2nd
in points scored, and though they are 15th in
passing yards, we all know quarterback Philip
Rivers is progressively getting better.
The Chargers are coming off
a 14 point win at home versus the Rams. They also
beat Pittsburgh by 10 points and Tennessee by
33 points at home. I see LaDainian Tomlinson running
free against the Browns 28th ranked run defense.
Folks, San Diego can’t
afford a letdown here, as the Denver Broncos are
also 5-2 in the AFC West. If the Chargers were
playing a better opponent, I think the absence
of linebacker Shawne Merriman would be a factor,
but not with this Browns’ team.
Free Cappers Pick: San
Diego
New Orleans (-1) at Tampa Bay
There is no doubt in my mind
that New Orleans is a far better team overall
than Tampa Bay.
Reggie Bush and company are
coming off a bad loss (35-22) against the Ravens.
Bush got hurt in that game, but word is that he
will be playing this week. That means the Saints’
7th ranked offense should trump Tampa’s
22nd ranked defense.
I have to admit that Tampa
Bay looked good at home against a wailing Eagles
team, and a lifeless Cincinnati squad. However,
I have a feeling that both wins came off unprepared
opponents who overlooked the Buccaneers.
New Orleans is not overlooking
this team. or their rookie quarterback Bruce Gradkowski.
The Saints beat them earlier in the year at home
by three points. I believe that the Saints will
rebound from last week and come out with a quality
performance on Sunday.
Free Cappers Pick: New
Orleans
Oakland (+7) at Seattle
Oakland is lucky this week
heading into Monday Night Football. That is because
both quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and running back
Shaun Alexander are out for this game.
Bay Area sports radio is
reporting that Raiders’ quarterback, Aaron
Brooks may play this coming Monday night even
if he doesn’t start. Andrew Walter may have
had a bad couple of weeks, but we’ve seen
some life lately, and Walter could have success
against Seattle’s 28th ranked pass defense.
Let’s also keep in
mind that the Raiders’ defense is 8th in
total yards allowed. Seattle can not run the ball
without Alexander, while the Raiders rushing game
has been picking up.
Seattle Coach, Mike Holmgren
should be happy if backup quarterback, Seneca
Wallace can pull out a close game, and not lose
outright. The Raiders plus the seven points is
the value here.
