| Auburn (-14) at South Carolina
 Just looking at the line,
one may think Auburn (4-0) giving just 14 points
is great value. I see this being a Coach Steve
Spurrier special. Remember, Spurrier has a flair
for the dramatic. If you don’t believe that,
just ask his old team, the Florida Gators, who
came to South Carolina last year as a five point
favorite and went home with a 30-22 loss. The Gamecocks (3-1) are not
a bad team on either side of the ball, and now
they have a quarterback in Syvelle Newton who
has enough speed to get outside the pocket and
make plays while avoiding the Auburn defense. We all know Auburn is the
better team, but just like Georgia and other top
teams struggled last week, now it is Auburn’s
turn. Like I said earlier, Steve Spurrier and
national television go together like peanut butter
and chocolate. I see the Gamecocks keeping this
one competitive, and that makes getting the 14
points simply delicious. Free Week 5 College Pick:
South Carolina Louisiana Tech (+33) at Clemson Clemson (3-1) is a stout
17-4 at home since the 2003 season. Through the
first two home games this season against Florida
Atlantic and North Carolina, the mighty Tigers
have won by a combined score of 106-13. Louisiana
Tech (1-2) should be no different as they have
been blown out in their only two games this season
against Division I-A teams. The Bulldogs lost 49-10 to
then No. 20 Nebraska in their season opener, and
fell 45-14 last Saturday to Texas A&M. In
between was a win against Nicholls Sate, but the
only thing they have in common with Clemson is
a Bachelors Degree. When asked about this game,
coach Tommy Bowden was quoted as saying, "We're
going to take the best players we have and formulate
the best game plan to beat Louisiana Tech. Every
ounce of preparation is going to go toward beating
Louisiana Tech with no new wrinkles or experimentation." In coaches speak, that means
that Clemson is going to score early and often.
I know 33 is a lot of points, but Clemson at home
versus Louisiana Tech is as easy a lay-up as you
will find. I’m going to be looking for fireworks,
and a lot of Clemson Tigers points on Saturday. Free Week 5 College Pick:
