| Doug Gabriel, New England Gabriel
was acquired from the Oakland Raiders for a reported
price of a 5th round draft pick. If that compensation
is accurate, that looks to be a real steal for
a receiver of his talent level. Gabriel is big
and fast, and has a great chance to be the number
one receiver with Deion Branch still holding out. Branch’s value is decreasing
by the day. He has filed a grievance against the
Pats because they have refused to trade him. If
New England is not forced to trade him, it looks
like Branch will sit out until Week 10 of the
season. He is a very risky fantasy proposition
at this juncture. Jerry Porter, Oakland Porter was considered a man
in the doghouse after not getting along with Coach
Art Shell, and looking to be traded. With Gabriel’s
trade to New England though, it is clear evidence
that the team is not going to deal him, and Porter
will likely resume his spot as the number two
receiver next to Randy Moss. Ronald Curry also gets a
boost by the Gabriel trade, as he is the likely
3rd receiver in Oakland. If he can stay healthy,
he is a good fantasy sleeper.
Wali Lundy, Houston Lundy is the featured back
of the team now that Domanick Davis has been put
on the injured reserve, thus ending his season.
Lundy is a 6th round pick out of Virginia who
has caught the eye of the coaches. One caution
note is that Vernand Morency is also in the mix
for carries as is the newly acquired Ron Dayne. Davis averaged more than
1,000 yards rushing in his first three NFL seasons.
He is also a very good receiver out of the backfield
and knows how to get into the end-zone. It is
that kind of production that had many fantasy
publications ranking him in their Top 10 running
backs. Now, it is wait until next year. Posted by
